Books you don't need a PHD to understand

1

Unconventional Success by David Swensen

A Fundamental Approach to Personal Investment (2005)

Read the summaries and skip the charts if you don't need to know the minutiae of detail .
His bio on wikipedia speaks for its self

2

Straight Talk on Investing : What You Need to Know

Author: Jack Brennan (2002)

Comments: A U.S. book, but a good read on the basics of investing and mutual funds. Written by the Chairman and CEO of The Vanguard Group.

3

Why Smart People Make Big Money Mistakes

Author: Gary Belsky (1999)

If money were just math it would be so much simpler. I spend a lot of time helping clients figure out what makes them tick and stay motivated / focused on the goal while enjoying the journey

Comments: A fun introduction to the field of behavioral finance. It's written for the individual investor with lots of everyday examples to engage the reader.

4

The Essays of Warren Buffett: Lessons for Corporate America

Author: Lawrence Cunningham (2001)

Comments: If you're not a Buffett devotee and and haven't read all his annual reports, this compilation is an excellent way to gain from his wisdom.

5

Fooled by Randomness

Author: Nassim Taleb (2001)

Comments: A more advanced book that challenges the way we think about investing. Taleb is quite an arrogant fellow. People either love this book or hate it. I love it.

6

One Page Financial Plan by Carl Richards

7

Thinking, Fast and Slow

Daniel Kahneman’s Thinking, Fast and Slow. This book convinced me that my investing success up to that point likely had more to do with luck than skill or hard work, and so I finally made the switch from picking individual stocks to indexing.

8

“Pensionize Your Nest Egg” by Milevsky and Macqueen.
