Thinking outside the Box – Innovative Uses for Wooden Pallets and Packaging

Wooden transit packaging is highly durable and environmentally friendly – pallets can be re-used many times, helping to reduce the number of trees that are cut down and helping to save around 12 million tonnes of Carbon Dioxide each year. Once wooden pallets are no longer suitable for transit, they can be reused in many interesting ways:

1

Store your shoes

A pallet stood up on its side with its wooden slats horizontal can make an ideal solution for storing shoes. Simple fasten the pallet to a wall and slot your shoes in toes first. The weight of your shoes will prevent them from falling out as they cling to the pallet by the toe.

2

Furnish your kitchen

Take your pallet apart to create innovative storage solutions for your kitchen. For example, pallets are ideal for creating wine racks, or even large spice racks, leaving you with more workspace.

3

Make a rustic coffee table

When sanded down and painted, a recycled wooden pallet can make the ideal coffee table top. Simple add some wheels or short legs. For some more height, you can simply stack 2 or more wooden pallets.

4

Fence off your garden

If you would like to create boundaries in your garden, wood makes an ideal fencing material. Whether you are looking to create boundaries for your land, or simply split your garden into different sections, wooden pallets make a low-budget solution.

5

Build garden decking

If you would love a decking area in your garden, recycled pallets can create a quirky decking area for you to enjoy your garden.

6

Embellish your garden

If you are looking to re-vamp your garden, pallets can come in useful in a number of ways. As well as acting as a useful landscaping tool, wooden pallets can also make a great rack for potted plants when turned on their side, or even used as a planting deck.

7

Create a base for your bed, futon or seats

If you are on a limited budget and want to create innovative interior décor for your home, unwanted wooden pallets can make interesting furniture. For example, pallets can create a base for a bed, futon or a seating area. Wood can be painted to create the ideal look for your home.
