Aspyr Media has revealed that it is betting its future on the success of Valve's SteamOS project, and that despite the tiny minority of machines running Linux it is already approaching a break-even point. Aspyr's Michael Blair has stated that his company is 'making a long bet' on the success of Valve's Linux-based SteamOS and Steam Machine projects.

Quake III Arena Cell Shading is a modification for Quake III Arena which makes the game look like a painting or cartoon. Two techniques are used. The default one (Kuwahara filtering) simplifies the texture a bit, and the second one removes the texture, so it looks plain.

Continua lo sviluppo di Papyros, progetto open che punta di coniugare l'esperienza utente di Chrome OS e interfaccia grafica Material Design in Linux. Oltre al nuovo ambiente desktop (basato sul nuovo server grafico Wayland), e applicazioni dedicate (come ad esempio il nuovo file manager, software center ecc) gli sviluppatori di Papyros hanno presentato in questi giorni il nuovo web browser Liri.

In questa guida andremo ad analizzare le novità di Profile Sync Daemon 6.00 e vedremo come installarlo in Ubuntu e drivate. Attraverso Profile Sync Daemon potremo rendere più reattivo Firefox, Chrome / Chromium, Opera ecc in Linux, ecc.

Abbiamo già scoperto che Ubuntu 15.10 di fatto non porta notevoli cambiamenti rispetto al passato, ma la stessa cosa non la si potrà dire della futura release 16.04, attesa per il mese di Aprile 2016. Non fosse altro perché ci ritroveremo, dopo due anni esatti, di fronte ad una nuova versione LTS, ovvero con supporto a lungo termine.

Xfce è un ambiente desktop per vari sistemi Unix-like (come GNU/Linux o FreeBSD) che richiede meno risorse dei più blasonati GNOME e KDE, risultando così un ottimo compromesso tra leggerezza e funzionalità.

Cómo personalizar GIMP a través de sus temas.

Compiz può prendere il posto di altri window manager come Metacity in GNOME, KWin in KDE e Xfwm4 in Xfce. In tal modo vengono implementati all'interno dei vari ambienti desktop una serie di effetti come un uso generalizzato delle trasparenze, un sistema per mostrare tutte le applicazioni aperte allo stesso tempo simile all'Exposé di macOS o un selettore di applicazione (ALT-TAB) con anteprime in tempo reale delle finestre. I due effetti più conosciuti sono la mappatura dei vari desktop sulle facce di un cubo in 3D e le finestre tremolanti come se fossero di gelatina quando vengono spostate.

Una delle cose che più mi ha colpito e apprezzo in ubuntu è la facilità di modificare il look & feel , l’aspetto grafico della distribuzione, lo splash screen, ovvero la schermata che ci si presenta dopo avere inserito nome utente e password.
