Christmas Eve in Japan is the most romantic night of the year for many couples, and one of the most popular activities is going to see light shows, or "illuminations". But in a city as big as Toyko, there are tons of these illuminations, and you wouldn't want to waste your time going to a dud, would you? Fear not, for here are the top 10 Illuminations you won't want to miss in Tokyo this year!

With over 235,000 lights, the light up at the Shinjuku Terrace City light up at the Shinjuku station of the Odakyu train line is a jewel in the city's busiest neighbourhood.

The number 1 spot in Tokyo, and the number 2 spot nation wide, goes to the spectacular Yomiuri Land, a theme park that gets a complete 4, 000, 000 light make-over for the Christmas season. And what a make over it is. If you can only make it to one Illumination event in the winter season, make sure it's this one. Fortunately, Yomiuri Land's illumination is one of the longer running ones, so you have plenty of opportunity to get there.
To see the park that almost took the top spot nationwide, visit between 10/16/2015 and 2/14/2016.
