WhatsApp
Why WhatsApp tops every list that covers messengers? Well the reason is simple and precise. Whatsapp is reported to have the most number of subscribers and the most popular instant messaging platform got even bigger after being acquired by Facebook in 2014. As stated by Wall Street Point, with a user base of 900 million Whatsapp clearly stands out as the most dominant application in the messaging arena.
Snapchat
What sets Snapchat apart from the rest? It’s the number of active users. One might have a large pool of registered users but if they are not engaged with the application then they just might be counted off! Snapchat beats all major networking platforms when it comes to show off active users on a daily basis. Such was the dominance of Snapchat in the instant messaging sector that the application turned down a $3 billion offer made by Facebook for an acquisition back in 2013.
Viber
Let the vibes roll! One of the most successful applications till date, Viber is not only effective to its developers in terms of popularity but it has also proved to be fruitful for its investors. Extremely popular stickers, calling out options to other operators are the two most monetary successful features of Viber.
ringID
One of the latest entrants in the social network, ringID has already been critically acclaimed. Another useful application with diverse features is Line. Apart from sending messages, users can also send money to other users. The app is hugely successful with its sticker sets and its stickers were used for a noble cause when it raised money through sticker sales for the victims of typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
Telegram
Originated due to a lack of sense of privacy among the founders, Telegram was bound to be designed keeping privacy as one of its top concerns and it’s exactly what it has resulted into. Considered to be one of the most secured messaging apps available, Telegram has been criticized for security issues but still boasts a loyal user base who are satisfied with the application’s safety measures.
Kik
Valued at $1 billion in the newest funding rounds, Kik is another Canadian application to make this list, the other one of course being ringID. Since it has started monetizing its users through advertisements and features, it has seen a rise on interest from investors. With 250 million registered users, it’s obvious that this challenging app is called the “WeChat of the West”.
WeChat
When an application boasts 7 times more Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) it has to be in the list of successful apps. Although WeChat’s success lies mainly within China, but being on top in a country with a smartphone penetration of 62% is everything that a messenger has to look for. Originated from the app-within-app functionality, WeChat now has a pool of 549 Monthly Active Users.
