An ancient temple located in the heart of Kandy, the Embekke Devalaya is believed to be constructed by King Vikramabahu III of Gampola Era. A highly venerated spot in the city, the temple is dedicated to "Katharagama Deviyo" and a local deity called "Devatha Bandara" is also worshiped here. The temple consists of 3 main halls which is called the "Sanctum of Garagha", the "Dancing Hall" and the "Drummers Hall". The Drummers Hall is the most prominent hall here for it is adorned with ornate wood carving combined with exquisite pillars and a high pitched roof giving this place, a majestic appearance.
