Listly by Gail Zahtz
When this list started, there were only a handful of single user and group public and private online curation tools. We now invite you to come back with us to see how these platforms from the start have evolved, and new content curation tools that have come out in the past few years. Feel free to add your own items or vote through as we develop the list.
Content marketing is going to be bigger than ever this year. Ninety-two percent of marketers are already using content marketing. More than half of B2B and B2C marketers are increasing their content budgets in 2014. While the fundamentals of good content will never change, the tools and tactics — even the way people consume content — continue to evolve, and documenting your content strategy impacts your overall success. Check out this comprehensive guide to tools for creating and curating, promoting and distributing content — customer information included.

Pinterest is my most heavily used content curation tool. It's highly visual- in fact, if you don't have a great picture with the post or page, it isn't worth saving. Pinterest is divided into boards that you create to choose how you want to group your content. It's 100% free.
I hazard to guess that many people use Pinterest for fun for saving photos that they find across other Pinterest users by just going to Pinterest and saving a pin (previously called repinning) and putting them on their board. I, however, link through to every article, read them, and save the ones that I find not only visually appealing, but a product, article or website that I want to go back to later. A general rule of thumb for me is that if I could plan on including it a its own article or within an article, then it gets pinned.
Pinterest is easy to save from across the web with a Pin-it button on your upper tool bar. Smart publishers are also using the Pinterest API to enable all of their photos, videos and images on their site to have a "pin it" button right on the photo. What more, for cross platform sharing, you can share your pins onto twitter or facebook and so save/curate on Pinterest and then share it on the other sites. Finally, Pinterest offers widgets so that you can save boards on your websites and the latest pins that you have saved on the board will go on your website (think side bar size more than a full page of content.)
One of the best features about Pinterest is that they do all of the SEO for you. If you actively pin in a category and you have an active audience, you will find your pins within google images, and your boards on the first page of Google search. There is nothing a user needs to do for this magic to happen.
For those who look at Pinterest only as another social media (and honestly, if anything could improve first, I think it's not so social, and it's really hard to engage conversation around the pins and the topics) relook at it as a solid form of curation in your program. (Using Pinterest to promote your brand is another use for it and a different list entirely.) Happy Pinning!

While a bit dated (e.g. picket now integrates with over 1500 Apps versus the few hundred in the video) http://www.JenniferHerndon.com does a pretty complete job of teaching you how to use Pocket for saving your content from across the web to read later.
It has won many awards for this Apple and Android app. It appears to be a very easy way to save content from everywhere you find it across the web. Jennifer Herndon explains that pocket is most like "Pinterest for yourself."
Pocket offers a great accessibility feature which is Listen (text-to-speech): Open any article and tap the More button to start listening to your content. Adjust the speed of the reading by sliding the scroll bar from Slow to Fast.
What is not clear is how easy pocket is to use to share your curation with others- we'll give it a try and let you know, in the meantime, let us know your experiences!
Scoop. It has remained true to its roots as a social media and content aggregator easily saved and published in a beautiful masonry grid fashion. The screen shot above shows the differences in features and prices of basic (which is now only one scoop) versus premium levels. With Scoop. It you discover content via items that you find and share, suggestions based on the content areas in which you publish or show interest. Then you select which items are included to go out (curation) and then it publishes across any part of the web/social platforms.
It is very fast and intuitive to use and you can publish it within the scoop.it site, integrate it into your wordpress or wix site, or use it as a newsletter, mobile app, or targeted site/ page based on content and audiences.
In re-evaluating content curation tools from the past several years, I find that this has both stayed true to its' original intent of being a very user friendly and fast way of sharing mixed content and also growing to be able to use across the many platforms you may have developed.
