Listly by John Huh
Halloween is just ahead so what better time to look back on some of the absolute worst modified car trends ever? Modified cars and the industry as a whole has certainly grown out of it's boy racer labels and street racer image. The fact that many of these hideous car trends can be linked back to the era of the very first Fast and Furious movie is no coincidence. It was an age when modifying cars was extremely popular, and some people took their own creativity perhaps a bit too far.
Many of your know some "friends" who may have made these modified faux pas or you might have even thought that some of these car trends were actually cool at one time, because a lot of these worst modified car trends are around even today. It's a subjective list so please don't take it personally if one of these modifications or trends on the list happens to be on your ride, and as always if there's an entry that you feel has been overlooked, let me know!
Here is a look back at some of the worst modified car trends of all time.
Or really any body kit that makes your car look like an animal. What may look aggressive and mean off your car, most definitely will look like shit on it. This is one modified car trend that should have never been.
It used to be the common term for your car or your garage build that was in the process of it's transformation. And while I can definitely appreciate the modder on a budget, sometimes you should leave the mods off until you have the money to do them right. Nowhere else is this more evident than body kits or aero that is installed but not yet painted.
Look, if you want to buy used body kit parts that's not a big deal, but when you install them before they are painted, and it makes your car look like 5 different colors and cars in one, it's time to seek out professional help.
Not just any wing mind you, but ones that are so huge that they could double as parking benches on an otherwise stock car. You know someone who has done this. It's not only garish and ugly but it just makes you look like a fool when your grandma's 1998 Chevy Caprice is rocking a 8 foot high wing.
Believe it or not, this car actually moves on it's own power.. This is what happens when people take the "Hellaflush" movement and go full retard.
Don't get me wrong, there's absolutely nothing wrong with fitment, or flush fitment at that. But this car is a travesty to mankind, and should be lit on fire.
One of the most shameful entries on this ten worst modified car trends list, these fake modifications are just the worst. Rim covers that add the look of cross drilled rotors, or glue-on grills or stickers that give your car the appearance of "performance" vents.
Easily one of the more played out trends of the mid 90s, lambo doors took on a whole new life when people started giving their trunks, hoods, fuel doors the lambo treatment.
One of those trends that just won't die out, the altezza or clear light craze is still fairly strong. While this looks great on an IS300 or a car that's intended to rock these kinds of lights, some cars it's just plain ugly
Who doesn't like plus sized rims? I sure do. But spinner rims are horrible no matter what car they are on. Take this BMW that's rolling on 30 inch rims. The fronts are still spinning as the rear rims sit flat. The car looks like a Jeep and it's just a huge waste of money.
Someone's clearly into this trend, but it sure aint me.
Adding racing stripes to your ride used to be the hottest trend back in the day, but it's still horribly ugly and just not right in most circumstances. It takes more than just a roll of electrical tape to add some stripes to your car, and the ones shown above aren't even straight!
Hilarious
Popularized by the Fast and Furious movie franchise, the neon underglow trend lived for far too long in my opinion. As if your oversized muffler and outrageous paint job didn't attract enough attention, you've got to put neon lighting under your car, making it look like a UFO.
You know what they say about a good thing, and that's when you take it and make too much of it, it's quickly ruined. I assume this person thought they knew what they were doing with the oil cooler, the front lip and the hood exiting exhaust pipes, and then they lost their damn minds.
I mean WTF is this thing
