Dishes which every Bali visitor must try! Good food for a great holiday

Your time in Bali can be a wild party or a soothing sanctuary. It all depends on what you want it to be. But one thing in common for every traveller is that they will be able to enjoy some good food.

Babi Guling

Probably the most iconic dish in Bali, Babi Guling (roasted suckling pig) consists of spit roast pig stuffed with rich traditional spices and mix of veggies. This is unusually served with a bowl of rice and a crunchy salad in a coconut chili dressing. This dish was once a communal treat only during special festivities and ceremonies, but now Babi Guling can be found widely served at restaurants and roadside eateries.

NasiCampur

Bali's own take on 'chicken rice' Nasi Campur can be found served at many restaurants throughout the island. The dish is mainly white rice served with many different elements of Balinese delights, from a bit of babi buling or betutu as the main meats together with mixed vegetables and a spicy sambal. Sometimes a bowl of soup is added to the dish. For those who do not want it too spicy, simply ask for it without the sambal. This is local favourite and they usually have it for breakfast or lunch.

Satay

Almost everyone's tasted some type of meat kebabs but the 'satay' that the Balinese cook up is just amazing. These skewered and grilled meats may consist sliced chicken, goat, mutton, beef, pork, fish, tofu, eggs or minced blends whatever goes into it, the taste is yummy. There is also a local specialty called 'Satay Lilit' which comes even in turtle meat! The Satay Lilit is mixed with coconut, coconut milk and a rich blend of vegetables and spices. An accompaniment of sauces is also served with these.

Nasi Goreng

Every Indonesian restaurant in the world has this dish in their menu. Basically the national dish of the country, Nasi Goreng is stir-fried rice served with a combination of meats and vegetables. You find a fried egg, diced beef, chicken kebabs, shrimps, lamb, crab, onions and a hot chili sauce. They also add in a slice of cold cucumber or tomato.

BuburInjin

You find sticky rice pudding across Southeast Asia, but it's never the same as the BuburInjin (black sticky rice pudding) that the Balinese serve. This is a common dessert in the country however you find the tasty dishes prepared at the upscale restaurants. Usually it is served with slices of mango, jackfruit or lychees and a scoop of ice cream making the complete dish a sweet delight!
