Sunderland afc's worst starting 11 in a 4-4-2 formation from the last 5 seasons

1. Keiren Westwood

1. Keiren Westwood

Unfortunately, one of the most promising championship goalkeeper came to Sunderland and experienced second choice football to then number 1 Simon Mignolet. When Mignolet was ruled out through injury, the not so reliable Keiren Westwood was promoted to the firs team, playing inconsistently and being benched once again when Mignolet returned to first team football. His first season as number one was short lived, as he was replaced by Vito Mannone within the first few months of the season.

2. Ondrej Celustka

The right back spent a season on loan with Sunderland, although he looked decent in the early period of his Sunderland career (forcing a save from 30 yards from former Fulham goalkeeper Marteen Steklenburg) This was short lived as he only played a handful of appearances and often found himself out of favour due to inconsistent performances.

3. Patrick Van Aanholt

3. Patrick Van Aanholt

Inconsistent at best, Patrick Van Aanholt has consistently cost Sunderland defensively as it becomes more obvious that the players attacking mind outweighs his defensive duties, leaving Sunderland short constantly at the back.

4. Titus Bramble

4. Titus Bramble

Despite spending three years on Wearside, Titus has been questioned throughout his footballing career for his footballing ability. Due to injuries and lack of form, he made 47 appearances during his time at Sunderland, scoring 1 goal, Titus is currently without a club after leaving Sunderland in 2013.
