Employment and Disability Resources for Educators

This Technical Assistance Guide (TAG) was developed to assist in the improvement of communication, coordination, and services for students with disabilities transitioning from school to work. It was designed to be useful for all persons and agencies (stakeholders) involved in the transition process. This document will vary depending upon the stakeholder’s needs at the time of use. Included here are some testimonials from various stakeholders on how they have found this guide to be helpful.

All students deserve to graduate from high school feeling hopeful about their future and ready for further educational opportunities and the workforce. For students with disabilities, this can be accomplished with comprehensive advance planning for life after high school. The purpose of this handbook is to assist youth and their families to navigate through this planning process.

Wisconsin Family Assistance Center for Education, Training & Support (“WI FACETS”) is a statewide non-profit organization, with its main office located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. WI FACETS was founded in June 1995 by a small group of parents who had a strong desire to help other families understand the special education laws and systems.

WI FACETS:

• Helps parents build partnerships with those who provide services to their children.
• Connects families to community resources.
• Educates parents on their rights and how to use those rights to become involved in their child’s education.
• Empowers parents and young adults so they may advocate effectively for their own needs.
• Provides information and resources to educators and other professionals who support children with disabilities.

WSPEI is all about partnerships. It helps parents and school districts build positive working relationships that lead to shared decision making and children's learning. WSPEI helps expand the knowledge and skills needed to develop positive and collaborative relationships between families and educators.
