How to buy taxi coupons

We sell coupons at a 50 percent discount to qualifying Boston residents. You can pick up taxi coupon books in person at City Hall:

MBTA Office for Transportation Access

Oversees programs and services for persons with disabilities and senior citizens. Senior and Access Pass Program offers reduced fare passes for eligible persons. Must have application completed by a licensed health care provider unless you have a Medicare Card, you are a veteran with a disability rating at or above 70%, or you are receiving services from DMH or DMR. Offers other transportation services.

Medicaid Medical Rides

This service is for medical rides only. The person must be on SSI and not capable of taking the MBTA. To receive this service the doctor must fill a PT-1 form and send it to the local Medicaid office. This entitles the person to 10 round trips. Each individual doctor the person needs to see must fill their own PT-1 form. Call at least two days in advance. Call after 3 p.m. the day before to confirm ride and find out time of pick up.

SCM Community Transportation provides van and wheelchair rides for local, non-emergency medical appointments and grocery shopping. Driver will help passenger up/down from the curb and/or up/down one step. Driver will help with a maximum of two shopping bags, suitcase, ect. SCM will not provide wheelchair carry-down services. Service area is Somerville, Cambridge, Medford, and Waltham. Fee range is $1-$2 one way.
A rider is welcome to have one person escort them on the van. SCM/Door2Door can be reached at 617-625-1191. Press “0” for the Reservations department.

Senior Shuttle

Senior Shuttle

The Senior Shuttle offers free door-to-door transportation service to Boston Senior residents age 60 and over. Rides are offered to non-emergency medical appointments. Several Senior Shuttles are wheelchair accessible. We kindly request that you notify us as soon as possible to schedule an appointment since rides are scheduled on a first come first serve basis.

Occasionally, due to cancellations, we can accommodate same day requests.

Transportation to social and recreational activities within the City of Boston are available with a minimum of 1 month required notice.

Taxi Discount Coupon Program
The Elderly Commission partners with Boston Police Department Hackney Division to provide an affordable transportation option.
Under this program, City of Boston residents age 65 and over, as well as disabled residents of all ages may purchase coupon books worth $10 at a cost of $5 per book (a 50% discount) for all taxis licensed by the City of Boston.
•Taxi Coupons do not expire.
•You must be a resident of Boston to purchase coupons and proper ID is required.
•Coupons can only be purchased with cash.
•A maximum of two books per person per month can be purchased.
•All City of Boston licensed taxi cab drivers are required to accept Taxi Discount Coupons.
Coupon books can be purchased at Boston City Hall, Room 271, or at various sites throughout the city. Please call 617-635-4366 for more information.

THE RIDE Paratransit Program

THE RIDE paratransit service provides door-to door, shared-ride transportation to eligible people who cannot use fixed-route transit (bus, subway, trolley) all or some of the time because of a physical, cognitive or mental disability.
