Aurora Nealand and the Royal Roses are a superb example of the resurgence of traditional jazz currently seen among the younger generation of NOLA musicians. Founded by saxophonist/vocalist Aurora Nealand in 2010, the Royal Roses have quickly grown to become a premier name in hot jazz and swing around the New Orleans area. Their luxurious sound draws heavily from luminaries like Sidney Bechet and Django Reinheart, evoking the sounds of a different era. With an undeniably fresh new twist on the harmonies and arrangements of trad jazz, the Royal Roses bring a sprightly energy to each stage show that will have your toes tapping and your soul satisfied. They’ve performed close to home at New Orleans’ own Satchmo Summer Fest and in NYC at the Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival. Their first album, 2011’s A Tribute to Sydney Bechet: Live at Preservation Hall, gained national acclaim.
In the meantime, you can catch Aurora Nealand & the Royal Roses every Monday at Maison on Frenchmen!
