Lansdowne was once a sluggish mountain town called Kaludanda, till it was established in 1887 as a British base for selecting fighters for its military. Named after the Viceroy of India during 1888–1894, Lansdowne even today holds its immaculate magnificence and untainted vales which must have attracted the British to set up a base here around then.
