When we were kids; that's kids of the 80's, we lived in a different time than the kids of now do. We didn't have dvds..hell most of us didn't have vhs. <- Or click here you damned lazy ass Millennials'.
So the only way we could see these movies; ie: movies we probably shouldn't have seen; was in the theater or if we knew some one someone with cable or someone ahead of their time that owned a laser disc.
There simply wasn't the access that we have nowadays. There certainly wasn't the wealth of programming and movies that we have. In turn we saw some fairly questionable cinema, hence this list.
Use your own children's favorite programs as a barometer to wage how inappropriate; if at all, you think the movies of yesteryear were for a child.
For perspective I added my age at the time I saw these movies.

I can't be positive my parents didn't show me this when I was 1. I don't think so. I do remember seeing this once syndicated on TV, but I know not where. I do know however, the girl that hung herself for Damien freaked me right the Hell out. I don't know how old I was when I saw it, but I've seen it once since then. It still creeps me right the f%#k out.

I saw this one in a tiny theater in Owosso, MI when I was 8. I remember we had those cheap cardboard 3D glasses. All I truly remember from from this movie was Jaws blowing up all over your face in a way that only 3D from 1983 could deliver

Keep in mind that this is a children's movie and rated PG. I loved it then and I love it now. Nostalgia is a weird and wonderful thing. At any rate, Phoebe Cates ' story about what happened to Santa was not lost on me. Up until this point the movie is a seriously funny romp. Pump the breaks and suck up the next few minutes kids. Here's where the movie takes a serious turn for the macabre.

This was another movie I remember seeing at my Grandma's on a Saturday Shocker or a Thriller Double feature. I'm not exactly sure how old I was. I would have to guess between 6-8. Angus Scrimm; the undertaker that wielded the murder ball, still creeps me out to this day.
Phantasm is a 1979 American horror film directed, written, photographed, co-produced, and edited by Don Coscarelli. It introduces the Tall Man (Angus Scrimm), a supernatural and malevolent undertaker who turns the dead into dwarf zombies to do his bidding and take over the world.

I watched this at my friend Jeremy's house. He had HBO so once again I was likely 7 maybe 8 yrs old when I saw this movie. I must have been 7 as I was spending the night at his house. Holy SH%@ I was spending the night at friends when I was 7.

I remember my mom let me stay up late to watch the video followed by the making of promptly after. It was a really creepy; albeit whoa-fully misguided, mini horror movie.

The beheading of Thulsa Doom. The prick deserved it.
In all reality, I saw Conan the Barbarian in a hotel room on HBO in 1983 while on vacation so I was probably more like 8yrs old.
This scene is between Conan (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and Thulsa Doom (James Earl Jones). Doom tries to convince Conan to join him and it also exemplifies James Earl Jones acting and sheer presence.

I went to see this movie on a Friday night at the Main Theater in Owosso, Michigan with 2 other friends both younger than me. We watched the "Oh Num Sheeva" scene and saw the heart ripped from that poor bastards chest only to set on fire as he was lowered. That really stuck with me. Freaked me out like mad. Anywho, after the show let out all 3 of us piled into a dodge hatchback wearing no seat belts.

I remember watching this at my grandma's on the Saturday Shocker. Nothing like some creepy ass Satan worshiping kids to creep you right the Hell out when you're the same age.

I love this movie. I love this movie to this day. From it's cheesy casting to Bub to the insane writing to it's soundtrack I LOVE THIS MOVIE! One of the movies that instilled my love of the reanimated dead genre.
Day of the Dead 1985 Horror Zombies rule the world, except for a small group of scientists and military personnel who reside in an underground bunker in Florida. The scientists are using the undead in gruesome experiments; much to the chagrin of the military.
