A Private Pilot License (PPL) is an authorization that permits the holder to act as the pilot of an aircraft. A Private Pilot License makes you eligible to you fly in day or night under Visual Meteorological conditions with your friends and family.
General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level (or equivalent qualifications) with 6 credits including credits in Mathematics, Science and English is a must have to be eligible to apply for the course.
Health and fitness factors such as height and muscle strength are examined while you undergo the process of selection. Confidence and a positive attitude are important when you undertake flight training. There are some health-conditions which may disqualify you from proceeding, for instance, if you have underwent a heart replacement or suffer from bipolar disease. The final selection will be based on a medical examination approved by the Civil Aviation Authority.
As long as an individual is not color-blind, and passes the medical examinations specified, they are qualified to join the course.
The minimum age to acquire a Private Pilot License in Sri Lanka is 17, although you can instigate training from the age of 16 by obtaining a Student Pilot License (SPL) which does not require any prior experience in flying. However, the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) issues the Private Pilot License only once an individual completes 17 years of age.
