Parmacogenomics / Personalized Medicine / DNA Testing etc.

Pharmacogenomics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pharmacogenomics (a portmanteau of pharmacology and genomics) is the study of the role of genetics in drug response. It deals with the influence of acquired and inherited genetic variation on drug response in patients by correlating gene expression or single-nucleotide polymorphisms with drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination, as well as drug receptor target effects.

Genome - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Some organisms have multiple copies of chromosomes: diploid, triploid, tetraploid and so on. In classical genetics, in a sexually reproducing organism (typically eukarya) the gamete has half the number of chromosomes of the somatic cell and the genome is a full set of chromosomes in a diploid cell.

Diagnostic test

This article has multiple issues. Please help improve it or discuss these issues on the talk page . In medicine, a diagnostic test is any kind of medical test performed to aid in the diagnosis or detection of disease.

RNA - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ribonucleic acid ( RNA) is a polymeric molecule implicated in various biological roles in coding, decoding, regulation, and expression of genes. RNA and DNA are nucleic acids, and, along with proteins and carbohydrates, constitute the three major macromolecules essential for all known forms of life.

Protein - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Like other biological macromolecules such as polysaccharides and nucleic acids, proteins are essential parts of organisms and participate in virtually every process within cells. Many proteins are enzymes that catalyze biochemical reactions and are vital to metabolism.

RNA-Seq - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The transcriptome of a cell is dynamic; it continually changes. The recent developments of next-generation sequencing ( NGS) allow for increased base coverage of a DNA sequence, as well as higher sample throughput. This facilitates sequencing of the RNA transcripts in a cell, providing the ability to look at alternative gene spliced transcripts, post-transcriptional modifications, gene fusion, mutations/ SNPs and changes in gene expression.

Genealogical DNA test - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A genealogical DNA test looks at a person's genome at specific locations. Results give information about genealogy or personal ancestry. In general, these tests compare the results of an individual to others from the same lineage or to current and historic ethnic groups.

Getting you the right drug at the right dose at the right time is the goal of pharmacogenomics, which involves studying how your specific DNA sequence influences your response to medications. The drugs available today to treat cancer, heart disease and other conditions are powerful agents that work as intended in most patients.
