Who in your organisation needs access to data ? And who in your organisation is responsible for data ? In order to become data minded, an organisation must answer both of these questions by « many different profiles ». It is only by sharing access and responsibility over data that data-mindedness can truly start spreading throughout the organisation. To put it bluntly : data is everybody's business !

A data-driven business is sort of like Facebook. It's a business model that is data centric. Everything about it is developed to gather a maximum of data which must absolutely be monetised. There is nothing wrong with that model of course, but a great number of organisations don't recognise themselves in that approach. Those organisations must understand the difference between gathering data to sell and collecting data to improve processes. A data-minded organisation is an organisation that encourages critical thinking within its rank and empowers its employees to question business practices based on hard facts and statistical evidence !

This tip is both a technological challenge and a mentality one. Most organisations are segregated into departments. And it can be tricky to develop information sharing between entities. Very often, this mindset barrier is turned tangible by the very technology architecture which mimic the compartmentalised structure of the organisation and presents several isolated databases.
