Mongkok Shopping Areas – Retail Heaven

Retail is one of the major industries in Mongkok Hong Kong's most densely populated area. The multi storied buildings overlooking the streets have shops and restaurants at street level and commercial or residential units on the upper floors. The area is also famous for its street markets.


The Ladies Market Tung Choi Street

This one km stretch with over 100 stalls has been in operation for several decades. It is stuffed full of clothing, cosmetics, handbags, lingerie, costume jewellery, home furnishings, travel goods and trinkets. It is also known for fakes. As goods are not price marked and are not exclusive to shops there, shoppers can drive a hard bargain. Sai Yeung Choi Street

Famed for consumer electronics, cosmetics, clothes and discount book stores became two streets when a police station was built in the middle of it. However the natives continue to treat it as a single street.


Temple Street

In the areas of Jordan and Yua Ma Tei in Kowloon is a busy flea market also known as Men's Street as the more than a hundred stalls here specialize in men's fashions including mobile phone, watches, video tapes, old newspapers and antiques. The street also has Chinese medicine shops, cafes that serve Chinese snacks and street food and restaurants popular for their seafood menus.


Fa Yuen Street or Sneaker Street

This has been a popular place for image conscious youth to shop since the 1980s. The small establishments on either side of the street sell sports goods, clothing and the latest sports shoes from around the world. Every brand, fake and genuine can be found here. Some lucky people have found rare special edition sneakers here.


Flower Market Road

Off Prince Edward Road the street has everything to satisfy people with horticultural interests. Shoppers can find cut flowers of all sorts, orchids, potted plants, seeds and bulbs.


Yuen Po Bird Garden

Located near Mongkok stadium visitors can get a glimpse into the traditional hobby of songbird keeping. In addition to songbirds there are bird cages in all sorts of materials, shapes and sizes, bird feeders, water bowls and bird food.


Goldfish and Aquarium Street

Near the flower market, this street is famous for freshwater and marine fish and aquarium equipment, fish food and accessories for fish tanks.


Tile Street

This is really a section of Portland Street. This is where people who are building or renovating houses come. More than 50 retailers offer everything that anyone can ever want to improve houses.


Photocopy Street

Near Yim Po Fong Street this street has a remarkable number of photocopy shops that cater to schools nearby.


Portland Street

While this red light area is noted for its nightclubs and adult entertainment venues it also has restaurants, pubs and bars.


Kwong Wa Street

Between Dundas and Yim Po Fong streets this stretch of road is popular with hobbyists who can find everything from glue to models planes and more.


Dundas Street

The southern boundary of the shopping area in eastern Mongkok has the malls with the latest fashions from Japan and the west.


Nelson Street

The home of Mongkok Computer Center, a mall where people can find anything and everything that has to do with computers and cell phones. The three floor mall hosts over 70 shops and is visited by 10,000 customers daily. Customers are advised to thoroughly research the big items they wish to purchase and their price range prior to buying anything here.
