11 Essentials for Excellent ePortfolios

ePortfolios- This article give a quick overview of the advantages of using ePortfolios, and also gives good links to types of portfolios that can be used and strategies for using ePortfolios. This article helped me evaluate what my goals would be for using this in my classroom. They would be advantageous to our class because we could evaluate student growth over the two years that I have them in class.

ePortfolios- This blog helps to give tips to help teachers decide which online portfolio set up would be best for the needs of their classroom. This would definitely be helpful to me because it would help me know what I need before submitting my requests to the administration. It is a great starting point.

Storytelling With Wearable Technology

Digital storytelling- This is a quick article that give a review of different types of wearable technology, and ways that some teachers are using that technology to enhance student writing (such as storytelling). I love this idea. I often come across students that don't know what to write about. I think these types of digital devices could help to spark some writing. I had no idea that the Google cardboard was so inexpensive. I like the idea of virtual reality trips. Most of my students are short on "exciting" experiences.

Digital storytelling- This handout has great links to help teachers find free resources for digital storytelling. This is definitely going to be a go to source to help when trying to find good sites. I think the Thematic would be a good resource for helping my yearbook girls practice their captioning.

Digital storytelling- this is a link to someone else's digital storytelling list. He has posted many videos on how to use specific digital storytelling technologies. I think my seventh and eighth graders will especially like using BUBBLR. We have used comic strips to tell stories on paper. I think they would enjoy this more if they had more help with the illustration part.

Scaffolding ePortfolio use

ePortfolio- This is a great video to show how eportfolios can be used to bring forth individuality. She makes the point that templates can be used, but they don't have to be hard-fast templates that end up with products that all look the same. I think this would be a great video to show teachers to help with teacher "buy in" when trying to integrate eportfolios into a teaching team.

ePortfolios- this is just a step-by-step guide on how to use Google apps. to create digital portfolios. It is pretty boring (very text heavy), but also very informative. This would be a great place to start with portfolios because we already use Google Chrome for writing and editing, and all of our students have assigned gmail accounts.

Digital Storytelling- This blog has tons of information on digital storytelling. She has links to articles and links to digital storytelling creation tools. Even though she is a language teacher in Canada, I may have to start creeping on her ideas. She has so many great resources marked. Found a treasure here!

Using technology for current events- This is a way to give students news stories that are up-to date, and easily differentiated according to the reading needs of the classroom. Nonfiction stories in my literature book are from 2007. Sites like these make it easier to tie writing into current topics.

Using technology for current events- This is another site that helps to bring in current topics to help students read and write. It is a site that I currently use, and is one more reason why textbooks shouldn't be bought in paper text when etext can be updated easier, and give teachers more flexibility with changing the text to meet the needs of the student, depending on their reading ability.

Using technology for current events- this blog has many different activities that can help teachers bring current events into their classrooms in ways that help support the learning standards. I find this to be very important because many of my students have no idea what is going on outside of our community. Some that have opinions are only reciting what their parents views. So, even though this is about technology trends, I see it as very important to use technology to create well-rounded students that are able to read about, and then write about, what is going on in the world today.
