Using Chromebooks in the Classroom

1:1 Using Chromebooks:

A 2nd grade classroom using 1:1 with Chromebooks was observed and here are some things that were noted:
*each child had his/her own unique login therefore having their own private work space
*teacher was using DOCTOPUS to send prompts to kids as they were working at their own desks on an assignment
*teacher was able to work with small groups while tracking her students working at their desks (kids were on Google Docs) If a students needed help she was able to keep working with her group while tying a fast note to the students working at the desks

Resources K-6 - LSR7 Chromebook Classroom

1:1 Using Chromebooks:

This is a great resource for all teachers who use Chromebooks in the classroom. On this page there are a number of websites that work well with Chromebook. They have everything from projects to food dictionaries to study help. I can see myself using this as a reference when I go 1:1 next year!

lsr7chromebookacademy

1:1 Using Chromebooks:

This is an interesting website. I am not sure how handy it will be but since I have no schema on using Chromebooks I will have to wait and see. It is an academy divided into grades and your students can get on and learn about different aspects of using Chromebook. They can learn about many things from the importance of passwords to how to create and share a Google Doc. You can click on different grade levels too. All of the directions and information is right there for you to use. I think this should be handy.

5 Free Apps that Every Chromebook Classroom Needs - Insight ON

1:1 Using Chromebooks:

This is a list of great apps that can be used with Chromebook to make it more interesting and exciting to the kids. I especially like the typing app! I will start to play with some of these this summer to help prepare me for next year.

Getting Started With Twitter In The Classroom

Twitter:

This was a great article for a beginner like me and here are some important points I found:

*A school did a Twitter Tuesday, which started as an experiment but ended up becoming a tradition. The staff picked a topic for the whole school to Tweet about and the teachers facilitated.
*Twitter gave the kids a voice and essentially allowed them the opportunity to hear others
*Using Twitter taught the responsibilities of being online
*Taught kids that how they interact respectfully in class when in person should not be too far off from how they interact online
*Overall, it is better for our kids to learn alongside of us teachers rather than experiment on their own
*Offered T-charts to help teach Twitter and ideas for instruction in the classroom

Tips for Teachers Who Wish to Use Twitter in Their Elementary Classrooms

Twitter:

This article shares 6 tips from a first grade teacher that uses Twitter with her students. There was not a lot of information here, but since I have never used Twitter before the small amount of information was helpful. She discusses using one single account for your whole classroom in the younger grades. She also speaks to using creative hashtags. It was also interesting how she discussed Tweeting in math and including other groups that might be doing the same things your class is doing to keep the kids more engaged. All new to me!

50 Ways to Use Twitter in the Classroom

Twitter:

This is another tips page, but super handy and eye opening. Essentially this article states that Twitter is what keeps kids and teachers up to date! Some of the tips for using Twitter in the classroom that I thought I may use are:
*Following current events and issues
*Connecting with your community
*Live Tweet field trips
*Keep a running stream of questions during lectures

Cool Ways to Use Skype in the Classroom

Skype:

Why not use Skype because it offers an around the world experience for your students. Here are a few useful thing to use Skype for in the classroom:
*Author visits
*experts in any subject you are teaching
*Parent meetings
*Pen Pals
*Professional Development for teachers if something is too expensive to travel to go learn

How Teachers Use Skype in the Classroom

Skype:

This is an article that really encourages the use of Skype in the classroom. I have to admit the author convinced me to give it a try. Using Skype provides kids with amazing free opportunities they may never get to have in life. It is a great tool to teach geography and culture to kids. You can also connect with other classrooms and learn from each other. Your students will be much more engaged because using video is a great way to keep their attention and focus. The best thing is that it is free and requires few additional tools to use.

Chromebooks in the Classroom

1:1 Chromebooks:

This is a video explaining exactly what a Chromebook is and the similarities and differences between using a Chromebook versus a laptop. Some of the important points about the Chromebook that I took away:
*CB dependent on the Internet
*Only web based , cant use any software that you would normally download on a laptop (Word, Excel..etc)
*Only uses the web or the cloud
*Designed for classroom use
*not much maintenance
*updates all on it's own
*boots in 8 seconds

Doctopus for EDUs: Getting Started | The Gooru

1:1 Chromebooks:

This is a how to video on using DOCTOPUS in the classroom. This is a way for teachers to create assignments for all students to work on in the classroom when they are at their Chromebooks. The teacher can then work with small groups while students are working on specific assignments that the teacher has created and placed in the online folder using a class list of students. The teacher can keep track of what the kids are working on while teaching too. This sounds amazing!

Chromebooks

1:1 Chromebooks:

This page provides a number of links to help when using the Chromebook in the classroom 1:1. There are tutorials and any possible type of information you could want on using a Chromebook in your classroom. The one point I take from this page is that kids can do ANYTHING on a Chromebook, so why not? I can't wait to use so much of this information this year.
