Dehradun: The gates of the ancient Kedarnath shrine were thrown open for devotees amid elaborate rituals early Friday morning. "Chief priest of the shrine (Rawal) presided over the opening of the doors of temple and its sanctum sanatorium at 4.50 am in presence of Rudraprayag district officials and temple trust officials," President of Kedarnath-Badrinath Temple Trust, Ganesh Gadiyal said.

New Delhi: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi will undertake a yatra to Kedarnath on Thursday, trekking 18 kms up into the Uttarkhand mountains to pay obeisance at the temple which faced the brunt of flash-floods two years ago and has since been spruced up.

Just before the Char Dham yatra begins from April 21, the hilly states of North India have begun to receive light rain. According to the data available with Skymet Meteorology Division in India, Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand has received 2 mm of rain in 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Thursday.
