We're going on a blog tour! This is the introduction post for the ' Build Your List with 30 Daily Doables'.
Yesterday we looked at what list building is and today we are focusing on who it is you want on your list. How to work out who is your ideal client. Emma Burford and Stacey Myers discuss, in this short audio, why it is important to know who your ideal client is and what you might consider when choosing who it is that you want to work with.
Today, I am doing something I haven't done before: participating in a blog tour. Blog tours are a great way to share about a new book or program launch. I really like this book by Stacey Myers. It's practical and actionable. I talk with Stacey about her 30 Daily Doables project on the Your Brilliant Un-Career Podcast show.
Think about which format is easiest for you to put together. That is the key to deciding which way to package your content. You might love writing but hate your voice being recorded, so it would be a natural choice for you to go for writing an e-book or a report.
Today is all about, great headlines! One of the biggest things that can stop people is coming up with a headline for their free offer. The title is sometimes the only thing that people see, so having a title that grabs their attention is important. On the flip side, you don’t want to get so caught up in writing a great title that you don’t get your free offer up. It is better to have something up than nothing.
Ebooks and reports are very popular for free gifts. They can be quite easy to put together, even if you aren't a confident writer or don't like writing.
Checklists are quite an easy way to create an opt in. People love to know exactly what they need to be doing and to be able to cross it off as they go. You can make a checklist in Word, or something similar, and then save it as a PDF. That way you don’t have to worry about compatibility of programs and it is easy to download or print. An introduction to a topic with a checklist or cheat sheet is a quick way to put an opt in gift together.
It's Day 7 already on our 'Build Your List with 30 Daily Doables' Blog Tour. Contests are a great way to build your list. People love winning things and it feels great to be able to give something away.
Today is Day 8 of our 'Build Your List with 30 Daily Doables' Blog Tour. Free webinars are also a great way to build your list. Google Hangouts would also fit into this category, as it is the same concept.
I like the interview style webinars and also she screen capture ones – where you are talking and people only see your screen, whether you are showing what you are doing on your computer or have a slide presentation visible.
Elaine loves hangouts so I thought she was the perfect person, not only to host us, but to share with us how she uses hangouts to build her list.
Once you have decided what it is that you are going to give away you need to find an autoresponder service to use. Basically this system is where you are going to house all the people on your list and also where you are going to send emails from.
Here we are at day 10 of the 'Build Your List with 30 Daily Doables' Blog Tour.
The first thing you want to do in your new system is set up a list that is relevant to what your free offer is. I am going to go through how to set up a list in Aweber, as that is the system that I use. If you have another system, that is fine. This will also be of use to you as most of the systems have pretty much the same set up.
Doable 11 already of the 'Build Your List with 30 Daily Doables' Blog Tour.
Now that you have the list created you need to make the form that is going to go on your website, or wherever else you choose to host it. (If you have missed any of the previous blogs you can access them on the Blog Information Page.) This will usually be on your website but could also be on a Facebook page.
I'm excited to host Day 12 of the new book, "Build Your List with 30 Daily Doables" by my friend and author Stacey Myers. It is Day 12 already on our 'Build Your List with 30 Daily Doables' Blog Tour.
There are a few different places you can place an opt in form on your WordPress website. A sidebar opt in is one that you have in the sidebar of your website. You will have seen these on a lot of websites you have been to. It sits on the top right hand side of the website.
We are stop 13 of her blog tour - you'll surely want to check out any days you missed and stay on the tour for the remaining!...Enjoy!
A landing page opt in (sometimes called a squeeze page) is a page that people come to opt in and get what it is that you are giving away. Generally when it is a landing page there isn’t anything else on the page for people to get distracted by. They either opt in or they leave the page (bounce off, is the official word for it).
Doable 14!!
How you deliver your free gift is going to depend on what other things you have set up and what the free gift is. If it is a PDF or something similar you can either upload it to your WordPress site, if you have one, or simply add it as an attachment to your follow up email.
Here we are at doable 15 of the 'Build Your List with 30 Daily Doables' Blog Tour.
There are a few things you want to include in your first email:
Thank and welcome them!!
Remind them what they signed up for.
Let them know how they are going to be able to access whatever it was they signed up for.
How they can get in contact with you if they have any questions
What is going to happen next – are they going to receive a weekly email or a monthly newsletter?
People like to know what to expect.
Here we are at day 14 of the 'Build Your List with 30 Daily Doables' Blog Tour.
It is up to you how many emails you have in a follow up series. Some people can have up to a year of follow ups ready to go out. I am not quite that organised. I do have a little series of emails going out and I will share with you the kinds of emails I send. Please remember there isn’t an exact science to any of this, so please feel free to modify whatever you see to suit your style.
Here we are at day 14 of the 'Build Your List with 30 Daily Doables' Blog Tour.
The easiest place to start sharing about your latest opt in is on social media. All you need to do is write up a couple of posts and start sharing them. If you are sharing the 10 best smoothies to help you lose weight then all you need is a quick sentence or two so people know what they are getting. You can use hashtags like: #freereport, #freeoffer, or for the example that we are using here, #loseweight.
Doable 18 - How Guest Blogging Can Build Your List
Guest blogging is a great way to gain extra exposure, especially if you can submit blog posts to sites that have a lot of traffic. Again, look for blogs that are relevant to your niche and what you teach about. Some sites have a page on their website dedicated to guest blogging, so you will be able to see what they are looking for and the procedure to go through to submit a blog post. If they don’t have anything on the site you can simply contact them through the contact form or through social media. It is always nice to start building a relationship with the blog owner before you reach out to them – comment on their posts, share their content on social media, retweet some of their posts. That way when you approach them they will have an idea of who you are.
This is one of the best ways I have found to build my list. So much so, that I started my own Publishing Company to support other people to do the same in their businesses. Basically how it works is that you write an ebook. It doesn't have to be huge - you can actually write a small booklet of at least 2500 words and upload it to Kindle.
Here we are at day 20 of the 'Build Your List with 30 Daily Doables' Blog Tour.
I have put these two together as the concept is pretty much the same. You have a link to your opt in page underneath the signature part of your email. Write something like – “Discover the top 10 ways to keep your grass green in the middle of summer” and put the link there to your opt in page.

Article marketing isn’t as big as it used to be but it is still a good way to build your list. At the bottom of your post or in the author box you would invite people to come back to your blog to find out more information or invite them to go directly to your landing page.
Doable 22 - Commenting on Blogs as a List Building Strategy. Commenting on other blogs in your niche is a fantastic way for you to grow your reach as well as build your list.
Doable 23 - How to Use Facebook Ads to Build Your List
You can set up ads on most of the social media platforms. For the purpose of this post I am focusing on Facebook ads, as this is the platform that most people are familiar with.
Doable 24 - Using Affiliate Marketing to Build Your List
Affiliate marketing is when other people promote your products or services for you in return for a commission or payout when someone makes a purchase. Many affiliate systems, mine included, ‘cookie’ in the system those people sent our way by others. What that means is the system remembers who sent them.
