Best Alternatives to Hootsuite

Hootsuite is the most well known social media management tool. It's very powerful, has a free version, integrates with a huge number of social networks. It allows you to publish and schedule as well as monitor and analyse. But is it the best? Whilst it may well suit many individuals and businesses, Hootsuite will not be the best fit for everyone. The good news is that there are plenty of alternatives, and that is where this list comes in!

Agorapulse

A powerful social media management tool which currently integrates with Twitter and Facebook pages (with Instagram coming soon). It aims to offer enterprise level features at a much lower cost. One of the big advantages in using AgoraPulse is that you can add and manage unlimited team members. It synchronises Facebook page roles and you can even add custom roles to give custom rights to each team member. There are different plans, but this is based on the number of social networks you want to manage. The $29/mth plan allows you to manage 1 Twitter profile and 1 Facebook page where as the $99/mth plan allows you to manage up to 5 Facebook pages and 5 Twitter profiles- all with unlimited team members.

Oktopost

An impressive social media management tool primarily built for Business to Business (B2B) marketing. Oktopost supports Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn (profiles, company pages and groups) and Google+. Oktopost really shines by allowing scheduling across multiple social networks including multiple LinkedIn groups and by using a scheduling calendar. Instead of offering the facility to cross post to multiple networks, Oktopost allows you to hand craft posts to different networks in the best way possible. There is a free trial and paid accounts range from $49/mth to $249/mth.

Buffer

Buffer

Scheduling tool, Buffer integrates with a large number of social networks including Facebook (profiles, pages and groups), Twitter, LinkedIn (profiles, pages and groups), Google+ pages and App.net. You can cross post to multiple networks and decide whether you want to post straight away, add your post queue or schedule at a later date.

Socialdraft

Built to make social media simple, Socialdraft centers around a drag and drop calendar that allows users to drag & drop posts to duplicate or re-schedule them on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Socialdraft is great for teams allowing for collaboration and project grouping. Users can set up alerts to get real time notice when their brand/business is mentioned on the web, and Socialdraft even figures out the best time for your posts to get engagement and there is Instagram implementation. Pricing is set at 3 tiers: $29, $59 or $99 a month with no hidden charges.

Sprout Social

A big competitor to Hootsuite with some awesome features (really snazzy reports, multiple bit.ly url shortener integration, Google+ pages etc) – it does have a hefty price tag though- prices start at $59/user/month (this is a recent update, as it used to be $39/mth). There is no free account but they offer a free trial.

Rignite

Full social media management tool that allows you to post, schedule, collaborate, respond, and track social activity. Twitter, Facebook (profiles & pages), LinkedIn (profiles, pages & groups), Google+ profiles (monitoring only), Google+ pages (via Buffer), YouTube (monitoring only), Instagram (liking & commenting, but not posting)

MavSocial

A fairly new social media management tool to the block, MavSocial offers traditional features such as managing, monitoring, posting and cross posting to multiple networks. However it offers some very unique features. In addition to supporting Facebook pages, Twitter and LinkedIn (profiles, pages and groups), MavSocial also integrates with Tumblr and YouTube as well as the Chinese and Japanese networks Youku, Weibo and Renren with full international character support. MavSocial is also a digital assets manager which stores and manages all your images, videos and audio files where you can easily re-use them in future. Not only can you upload your own content, but you can also licence stock images from within MavSocial from various stock libraries including free ones. There is a inbuilt photo editor (similar to Canva) to edit these images. Finally MavSocial allows you to publish videos directly to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube and audio files to Twitter. This is particularly important when it comes to Facebook, as natively published videos tend to have more visibility and engagement than videos published through 3rd party video channels such as YouTube and Vimeo.

Commun.it

Commun.it is a full Twitter community management tool or CRM. As well as being able to manage multiple Twitter accounts you can find out who is relevant in your Twitter community. Examples include your influencers or people who support you. You can also find out who is talking about you or your business or who is linking to your website and interact with them straight away.

Edgar

Edgar

All of your updates are sorted into categories that you create and published on a schedule that you choose, so Edgar publishes what you want, when you want it. No manual scheduling, no busywork, and no hassle - just the peace of mind that only Edgar can provide.

Friends+Me

Friends+Me turns Google+ in to a fully fledged Social Media Management tool. It allows you to selectively cross post to Google+ pages, Twitter, LinkedIn (profiles, pages & groups), Facebook (profiles, pages & groups), Tumblr and even Appdotnet. It has a scheduling system similar to Buffer and cross-posts intelligently to other networks (including using full images, headings and descriptions). It’s something I use every day and couldn’t do without it.

Sendible

Sendible integrates with a huge number of networks (far more than any other social media tool I’ve come across). Your plan is dependent on how many services you want to add. However a posting to Twitter and monitoring a Twitter stream are treated as different services, and so the costs can mount up if you need to add all your social networks.

Jollor

Jollor

A business and enterprise level social media management tool that integrates with Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube. Jollor is a great tool for teams since you can add unlimited team members and are able to assign tasks and have full control of team member roles. The cheapest plan until fairly recently was 100 Euros per month, but they now offer some budget plans from 5 Euros per month and upwards. You can only add unlimited team members on their main €100 and above plans.
