FM Inventory Starter

FM Inventory Starter (FMIS) is an inventory management starter solution for FileMaker Pro. The file most of the tables and fields needed for an inventory management system. The relationship graph is intentionally minimal in order to enable you to choose the graph method you want (e.g. Anchor-Buoy, Unified, Selector Connector, etc.). There are over 80 layouts, including:

  • User interface layouts for detail and list views
  • Developer layouts that are ideal for use in scripts
  • Templates to use for creating your own layout.

FMIS is a starter solution, not an off-the-shelf solution. An off-the-shelf solution is built with presumptions about your business and inventory needs. However, FMIS makes very few presumptions. In addition to a minimalistic graph, there are very few scripts in FMIS. Most of your business logic occurs in scripts. You'll need to build that business logic into your version of FMIS. That means that buttons and triggers will need to be defined by you (or your developer).

In addition to the free FMIS file, paid courses are available to help you augment FMIS. Current courses include:

  • Order Types - a course on the benefits and alternatives to using the universal data model for orders.
  • Storing Quantity Values - instructions on the multiple quantity types (e.g. On Hand, Allocated, Available, etc.) and multiple locations (warehouses and bins/shelves/slots).
  • Inventory Transactions - how to log the movement of inventory into, out of, and through out your company.
  • Navigation - Options for helping users navigate through your FMIS.

FMIS uses card windows and therefore requires FMP 16. Please note that card windows do not work on FMP 16's Web Direct.

FMIS is free. To learn more, go to https://www.fminventorystarter.com/

Swipe Out! Learn how to swipe down (or up for that matter) on iOS.

In our previous article, we built beautiful drawer menus for desktop and iOS. These menus were horizontal in that they would slide in from either the left or right side of screen. This is achieved either through using a slide panel object, or through layout transition effects available in FileMaker Go (if you wish to have your menu as a separate layout). The sliding panel layout object gives us the power to use left/right swipe gesturing to close (or open) the menu.
