In Edinburgh's Old Town, Piemaker is on a main thoroughfare, making it ideal if you're walking around and need a quick, portable, cheap but yummy snack. They sell takeaway pastries and more, with vegan options clearly marked. They have a counter inside if you need somewhere to sit, but it's not really an eat-in kind of place.

Hanam's serves traditional Kurdish and Middle Eastern food, in a location conveniently near the castle. It's comfortable, moderately priced, and has a friendly staff. Brass Monkey is a quirky pub is popular with locals and has lots of vegetarian options, some of which are vegan or can be modified. Free wifi and lots of sofas make it a great place to hang out, especially when they're playing a film on their movie screen. Opened in 1962, Henderson's is an Edinburgh institution. It features vegetarian fare made with produce from Janet and Mac Henderson's East Lothian farm, among others. It's close to the train station and the shops of Prince's street, and is only a short walk from the Old Town. Definitely try the vegan haggis with "needs and tatties" for a taste of Scotland!
