5 Window Cleaning Tips

Cleaning windows is one of the household tasks that many people detest, it's hard, dirty work and it seems however hard you try you can never get rid of all the smears!! That's why we have written down our top 5 tips for cleaning your windows.
Use Newspaper or Coffee Filters
This is an old tip but a good one, instead of using lint clothes to clean your windows use newspaper as it leaves your window lint and smear free. Another alternative to this tip is to use paper coffee filters, they are absorbent and lint free so work just as well as newspaper and have the added bonus of not leaving newsprint al over your hands.
Use a blackboard rubber
If you find you have used the newspaper or coffee filters and you still have some streaks on your windows try running an old fashioned blackboard rubber. Simply run it over your dry windows and it will remove the streaks with the minimum of effort.
Avoid Water Runs
Do you often find water run marks on your windows after you have cleaned them? Frustrating isn’t it! To avoid this problem don’t wet the top edge of the window, leave a small gap. The water run’s come from water that has got under the seal and then runs down later, so leaving a small gap at the top will stop this from happening.
Hold back on the soap
It may seem obvious but don’t use too much soap in your bucket, in the long run it makes the job much harder as it takes longer to remove the water and soap completely from the windows. It can also lead to a build-up of residue on the glass which completely defeats the object of cleaning your windows.
Use your steam cleaner
If you have one about the house a steam cleaner can be a great gadget for helping you to clean your windows. They usually come with a range of attachments and some models have specific ones for window cleaning. Steam cleaners are well known for their germ killing qualities as well so if you like to know that your home is germ free this could be the best method for you.
