The Western Plains Zoo

The Western Plains Zoo

The biggest attraction in all of Dubbo is the most famous Western Plains Zoo. Located in the heart of this little town, this exquisite zoo is a wild life lover's paradise and is adorned with a large array of fascinating and even endangered species. The zoos biggest attraction is the White and Black Indian Rhinoceros both of which are both rare and endangered. In light of its conservation mentality the zoo has a successful breeding program for these species in order to preserve their numbers. If you are visiting the zoo with the kids try being there at feeding times as it is an absolute delight watching the many hungry species devouring their treats each in its own interesting manner. The zoo also has a large collection of wild exciting species such as the tigers, elephants and hippos all of which are quite thrilling to watch. The Siamung Apes are particularly crazy and fun and feeding time with these species is definitely something that is well worth watching.

The Old Dubbo Gaol

This historic landmark in the city of Dubbo is an excellent attraction for both adults and kids and is perfect to spend a couple of hours in the morning or the afternoon. Taking visitors back to the 1900's the Dubbo Goal is authentic in every way and enlightens guest of some of the creepiest practices from the back in the day. It has an eerie vibe to it but it is certainly lots of fun exploring the Old Dubbo Goal. The attraction features a large array of animated displays and during school Holidays there are regular re-enactments at the Goal with local actors that is plenty of fun to watch!
