Okay, this one is big. Anytime a service creates a plugin that you can use on your WordPress site, well, they are extra cool in my eyes. It's a very easy plugin that allows you to embed your list in any page or post on your site. You can find it in the plugin repository at WordPress.org.
When you create a list on your site, you get the attention of your readers. But what about the community on Listly? Having your list both on your site and on Listly, well need I say more?
Yes, I love affiliate links. Whether they are my own, or somebody else's, we all enjoy getting a few extra bucks in our pockets. Also, I know a lot of people who are more than happy to use a link from someone they know and trust. What better way than to put them in a list and make it easy for others? I would just recommend that you let people know that your list does contain affiliates.
We all do lists on our blogs. Some people hate them, others love them. In any case, they are great resources. But take it beyond just a list of products, movies, songs, favorite travel spots, etc. Turn them into regular posts with lists. This list is a perfect example of that.
It doesn't just have to be a list of content. With Listly's free level, you get a cool magazine layout like this post. But with the Premium version, you have the option for a grid layout. Their total of four options gives you just enough variety.
With Listly you allow others to like, comment and even add their own item to the list. You can moderate if you wish. Or, like most of my lists, I am the only one who can add to them. I do this since most of my lists are my personal recommendations. But you have the choice. You can even make your list private! Their community is strong and growing and happy to help you build your lists.
You can add a very handy Chrome Extension and Bookmarklet to your browser toolbar. When you are on a page, just click "add to Listly" and it will pull in an image, give you an option to change the image, add the URL and then give you the option of editing a description that may drop in—or add your own. And of course, you can choose which list you want to add it to.
This is probably the best part of list.ly. There are no limits. I have found ways to use it that others might not have thought about. My affiliates are just one example. But if you are thinking about using it, I encourage you to explore a little, to think beyond the basic list and bend and twist it into something that works best for you.
Lastly, founders Nick Kellet and Shyam Subrahmanyan are just cool people. I have had the chance to meet Nick in person, but have yet to meet Shyam. I'm just waiting for the day I can share a cocktail with both of them.
