Tipped to be one of the Middle East's favorite water sports hubs it is little surprise that Doha, Qatar is prime wind surfing and kite surfing destinations. Summer time is the best time to head down to Doha as the "shamal" breezes creates idyllic conditions for both sports. One of the top kite surfing hubs in the country is located on Fuwairit beach where the Zeekret lagoon provides beginners with perfect conditions to engage in both water sports varieties.
Revered as a diver's Mecca the warm waters of the Arabian Gulf is also home to some of the most breathtaking marine life on the planet. Offering deep sea explorers sightings of a plethora of fish species sea snakes, turtles, dolphins and rays the diving hotspots include the Messaid's Old Club Reef. Barracudas, spotted blue angel fish and groupers are frequently spotted in this reef while the New Club Reef close by is another popular diving area. Udaid's Inland Sea region is the habitat of many fish varieties thanks to its shady, small scale reefs. Wreck diving enthusiasts however should head down to Al-Sharqi located near Halool Island. With the Doha Sailing Club organizing a variety of contests including the coveted Qatar International Regatta sailing enthusiasts can find a variety of boats including Lasers and Optimists among the club's fleet. Sailing excursion as well as windsurfing courses are also provided by the club.
Tipped to be one of the most unique outdoor adventures one could experience in the desert holiday destination. Resembling snowboarding in many respects sand boarding is a fun activity that sees participants glide across sand dunes instead of snowy mountains. Sand boarding is available in many beaches across Qatar while Sand Skiing is a similar sporting activity where one employs conventional skiing gear to race across sand dunes. Khor Al Adaid with its large collection of massive sand dunes is the best place to engage in both sports activities.
Hiking, trekking and camping enthusiasts will also have a plethora of options when it comes to outdoor adventures among the natural landscapes of Qatar. Umma Tais is one such protected area littered with mangrove forests and pristine islands. As the natural habitat of a variety of marine creatures as well as birdlife the area is a significant breeding ground d for turtles. The Al Thakhira coast is another popular stopover among bird watching enthusiasts as the coast's mangroves are occupied by a large number of winged beauties. Khor Al Adaid with its tidal lake and lagoon is also worthy of exploration in addition to Ras Abrouq and Al Reem.
