Habarana's biggest attraction is without doubt its wild life. In all of Sri Lanka this tiny little town is one of the biggest hubs for elephants in the country and is a convenient stop over since it is located en route to Sri Lanka's most renowned cultural attractions like Sigiriya, Dambulla and Polannrowa. Giving a taste of wild life in the islands cultural triangle, the Minneriya National Park is a must visit. In addition to the large population of elephant, the park is also home to several other mammals, birds and reptiles making it a paradise for the nature lover.
Although not as well known as Minneriya, the Kaudulla is also another elephant paradise in Habarana. Many visit the Kaudulla for quieter elephant safaris, since parks like the Minneriya does get significantly crowded during the peak holiday seasons. The quieter ambience of the Kaudulla enables visitors to enjoy a better view of elephants going about their daily routine undisturbed.
Habarana boasts some of the most blissful jungles in the country and many travel from all over the country to seek solace in the arms of the finest of nature. The Ritigalla Forest Monastery is one such location which has an exquisitely soothing setting which has the effect of comforting the mind leaving it in a state of peace and tranquility. In addition to all the nature related attractions in Habarana, the town is also etched with deep rooted spirituality and is adorned with an array of beautiful Buddhist temples. The main Habarana Temple is located in the heart of this small town and is a beautifully designed structure. The interior etched with the history of Buddhism is definitely something to enjoy especially if you fancy religious history. Throughout the vicinity you will find an array of Lord Buddha statues and devout worshippers praying and offering flowers at these locations.
The wild life adventure in Habarana continues with Habrana's Hurulu Eco Park which is yet again a sanctuary for elephants and a plethora of other interesting species native to Sri Lanka.
