Si Kao is one of Thailand's favoured tourist destinations not just for it's for gorgeous beaches but also for the marvellous cultural sites and deep heritage the locals preserve.
That's right there is a festival to celebrate this much loved food. The marvellous festival came to be due to the locals' talent for baking delicious cakes. Celebrated on the first weekend of August the cake fest sees master bakers from all over the region gather to turn out the unique donut shaped icing free delicious masterpieces flavoured with green-tea, coffee, orange and other exotic flavours. If you are staying at a Trang Resort make sure to taste one of these cakes at a local café available throughout the year.
Say 'I do' underwater. This very romantic festival was established due to the popularity of the event, initiated in 1996 by a very romantic couple who fell in love at one of the beautiful Trang eco-tours. This event was made a permanent fixture; welcoming hundreds of couples who take the plunge 'literally' in an underwater wedding ceremony preceded by colourful fireworks, loads of dancing, delicious dinners, parades and adherence to fascinating local customs. The popular event held every Valentine's Day was added to the Guinness Book of Records in 2000. If you are looking for a magical resort in order to plan your wedding choose from a wide variety resorts located around the fabulous beaches of Trang. The luxurious Anantara Si Kao Thailand Resort & Spa is a very good choice.
This popular Chinese festival is celebrated in Si Kao due to the large Chinese Thai population living there. A holistic ceremony to cleanse body and soul the festival is celebrated every October for nine days around the time of the full moon. Followers wear white and abstain from eating meat and certain kinds of vegetables in order to receive blessings from the local gods. You will find many local restaurants serve up delicious Thai vegetarian dishes at this time, after all Si Kao is well known for its marvellous variety of cuisine.
A celebration of the best tasting pork in Thailand, Moo Yang is a much loved breakfast of roast pork. The pork is marinated in amazing flavours of sweet, salty, sour and spicy for five hours. It is then roasted on a grill that has been fired up at least two hours ahead. The pork comes out with a very crispy skin and deliciously flavoursome moist inside. The actual celebration and festival is held in September when the Trang areas best roasters bring together their culinary skills for an amazing variety of this much loved dish. A definite must try when in Trang during the month of September.
Sticking to the much loved subject of food the locals do know how to celebrate when it comes to mouth-watering delicacies. The festival is held from March to May and is a marvellous promotion of the Trang province well known as 'the city of food lovers'. The festival held in the Somdech Phra Srinagarindra Park sees a huge collection of stalls offering Chinese, Thai and fresh seafood dishes. Enjoy the 'Eating Championship' completion and the lively festive atmosphere there.
Definitely a festival to be enjoyed by the whole family when on holiday in Trang; the Seashell gathering festival is held on Pak Meng Beach in November and endeavours to promote the conservation of nature. The most interesting aspect of the festival is the competition to collect the beautiful Taphao sea shells.
