His parents, Wanda Ventham and Timothy Carlton (Timothy Carlton Congdon Cumberbatch), are both actors. He is a grandson of submarine commander Henry Carlton Cumberbatch, and a great-grandson of diplomat Henry Arnold Cumberbatch.
Casting Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange seemed like a foregone conclusion-once he was rumored to be up for the role, the Internet sort of collectively decided that it belonged to him (although for one shining moment, it seemed as if Joaquín Phoenix might win the role).
Stephen Strange was born to Eugene and Beverly Strange in 1930 while the couple was vacationing in Philadelphia. In 1932 Stephen's sister Donna was born at the family's Nebraska farm.
