Comic Life is a great app to engage children in creative writing. Any child will truly enjoy making some stunning comic books.
Touch Cast is a fantastic free application. It enables children to make very effective film casts with a range of interactive features. It is a fantastic app to encourage creative writing with obvious 'Speaking and Listening' implications.
This is a fantastic app to support any kind of poetic exploration. The app instantly makes rhyming suggestions and identifies the number of syllables in any written line. It can also help children to think about poetic structures.
iBooks allows a teacher to access thousands of books including some really fantastic and interactive ebooks. The app also allows you to highlight text, write digital notes in books and navigate through books in an engaging way.
This is a brilliantly simple app for younger story writers. Children can create attractive digital books with text, audio and photos.
dv Prompter is a great little app to help encourage children to write. The app allows you to create dv Prompts that can be used in line with other media apps in a news report project.
Switch Zoo is a nice app that can be used to encourage children's reading. The app enables you to create your own 'mashed-up' creature before offering information on each zoo animal.
The Podcast app provides teachers with an array of brilliant free podcasts that can become an essential resource for teaching and learning. This is an app that ticks all of the boxes when it comes to the Listening part of 'Speaking and Listening'.
Voice Meter Lite is a fantastic tool to use when children are engaging in some sort of Speaking and Listening. The app uses the microphone on the iPad to pick up the noise in the room and monitor it on a digital scale. It encourages children to speak up or be quite depending on their volumes. It is a great app to use along side role playing activities to highlight the projection of a child's voice.
The Collins books are absolutely fantastic. Collins have released a range of free app books that are very engaging and fun to read. Children can also create their own stories within each app. I recommend this series of apps to any key stage one teacher who is interested in engaging young readers.
Practicing letter formations and writing sentences can be laborious. This app offers a new way of writing that will excite any child. You can write free hand within this app and get it to convert it to word processed text.
This is a multimedia mind mapping app that can help children to organise thoughts and plan a writing task.
This one is great for any student that is writing essays or high level assignments. The app does exactly what it says on the tin. It makes Harvard Referencing easy by creating the reference for you.
