Technology Integration

Constructive Learning | Entry Level | Language Arts

During this video the teacher is describing her kindergarten/first grade classroom. The teacher breaks her students into groups throughout their school day. One of the groups that she was discussing, is her literacy group. In her literacy/technology group the students work with interactive websites to strengthen their literacy skills. One website that she mentioned that was helpful for literacy skills is starfall.com.
I chose this video because I enjoy learning about how other teachers are integrating technology with younger students. My students have some experience with starfall.com and I do find it to be a useful website for literacy skills.

Authentic Learning | Entry Level | Science

In this video the teacher was addressing how she taught her students the life cycle of a tree. She started with reading a story in large group, having multiple opportunities to learn the tree life cycle, and going through a powerpoint. The power point was interactive and was rich with the appropriate vocabulary. The students were helping the teacher fill in the blanks of the powerpoint presentation, as they created their own tree life cycle with real materials.
I chose this video because I enjoy learning about how other teachers are integrating technology with younger students. My students have been learning about life cycles (of a pumpkin and a caterpillar), so I was interested to see how this teacher used technology with life cycles. I liked the way that she used the powerpoint in an interactive way.

Goal Directed Learning | Entry Level | Science

The teacher was discussing different simple machines. The website edheads.com is a link that the teacher was using with her students. The teacher uses this website in her classroom to help teach the students about simple machines.
I chose this video because I enjoy learning about how other teachers are integrating technology with younger students. My students have not learned about simple machines yet, but this is a good website that I can check out now to see if I can incorporate it into my lesson plans.

Authentic Learning | Infusion Level | Language Arts

In the classroom the students are using technology as they create a public service announcement for their peers. The students were learning about the sun and its energy. The students were creating a public service announcement by using the flip cameras to talk with their peers about why they should use the sun's energy.
I chose this video because I enjoy learning about how other teachers are integrating technology with younger students. I love how the students were creating videos for their peers to see. This is a great idea and if the resources were available then I think this could be a possible task for my classroom, but probably in another subject area.

Authentic Learning | Adaptation Level | Math

The teacher is working in a second grade classroom. The students are using cameras to create math word problems. The students can take pictures of a variety of things in the environment. Then once they view the pictures on the computer, the students can create a math problem based off the picture.
I chose this video because I enjoy learning about how other teachers are integrating technology with younger students. My students love taking pictures with the iPad and I think that they would love this idea. We do a math problem every day on the board and this gives me an idea of how I can switch it up in the classroom. I can take a picture of something and have the students create the math problem.
