Social Media Marketing Techniques

Social media advertising can be a tricky world to navigate, especially with all the different platforms available. Getting users to spend their precious browsing time on an advertisement requires a certain amount of know-how, and getting them to share it with their friends is even trickier. There are, however, some tried and true tips for getting users to “like” and “share.”

Use Aesthetics

Users are much more likely to click on a link that has an attention-grabbing visual, especially if it involves a celebrity, something controversial, or a bunch of tiny baby kittens.

Appeal to Different Demographics

The smartest thing marketing agencies can do is advertise to a wide audience. The wider the audience, the more “likes” and “shares” you’re bound to get.

Play on Emotion

Not everyone will share a link about Gatorade, but everyone will share a Michael Jordan quote about dedication and performance. An audience’s emotions are key to reeling them in and making a connection with the product.

Cause a Little Controversy

People are always anxious to share their opinions on controversial topics, particularly on social media. Marketing agencies that want publicity for their product won’t find any faster publicity than causing a little heat amongst social media users.

Use Several Outlets

Each social media outlet offers a different set of advantages and disadvantages in advertising. A message that works on Twitter might be completely wrong for Pinterest or Instagram.

React Fast

Once something becomes popular on social media, there’s no telling how long it will remain popular. Marketing agencies should learn to jump on current trends and popular topics as they arise to remain current.

Make it Quality

Just because it’s social media doesn’t mean it isn’t still advertising. No company would put a sub-par commercial on the air; the same goes for social media. Users can spot a phony advertisement from miles away, and they’ll let the world know about it.

Social media is here for the long haul, and the marketing agencies that stay on top of their social media game will be the ones reaping the benefits in the end.
