Learning styles (+ brain- based learning)

October 2, 2014 Students have different learning styles and you are probably all familiar with the popular learning styles theory that emanated from Howard Gardner's work on multiple intelligences. According to this theory, learners are in a better advantage ( academically speaking) when the instructional strategy used is in accordance with their learning style.

September 10, 2014 During the first month of the new school year, teachers get to know their students in terms of their learning levels, where they are at with their learning, their strengths and weaknesses, and, most importantly, their learning styles. I emphasized the last point because it is the key to a successful learning journey for students.

October 2, 2014 Today while I was wading through my Pinterest feeds I came across this excellent resource shared by Teaching Resources. This resource contains some good posters that promote critical thinking. The one like the most is included below , but there also a few other posters relevant for classroom use.

In the mid-1950s, humanistic psychologist Abraham Maslow created a theory of basic, psychological and self-fulfillment needs that motivate individuals to move consciously or subconsciously through levels or tiers based on our inner and outer satisfaction of those met or unmet needs.

Whether storytelling, dressing backwards, or celebrating a different family member each day, summer games activate the joy of learning, decision-making, questioning, and playing with ideas.

¿Hacia dónde nos lleva la teoría de las inteligencias múltiples? ¿Cómo cambia nuestra forma de trabajar en clase, o la manera en que entendemos que los estudiantes aprenden? Según Gardner, todos los seres humanos tenemos todas las Inteligencias, pero no hay dos personas con los mismos perfiles de inteligencia, ni siquiera los gemelos tienen el mismo patrón.
