In past, American smokers could come to the hospital gift shop, buy cigarettes and light them up not only in the waiting room but everywhere in the hospital. Yeah, today this seems strage to us as smoking is banned in most public places including hospitals.

Pennsylvania Passes Cigarette Tax Increase

After a long period of delay, the Pennsylvania House finally approved a bill which imposes to increase taxes on cigarettes. The new tax of $2 per pack will be used to fund schools. The bill passed with the majority of votes (114 against 84) and is going to be sent to the Senate for the final decision.

New Bill Increasing Cigarette Tax in Philadelphia

On Monday, House of Representatives in Pennsylvania voted 114-84 a bill which gives the Philadelphia authorities the right to impose $2 per pack tax on cigarettes and direct these money to fund city schools. The bill was sent to state Senate for the approval and it will vote for it this week.

Less Stundents Smoking in North Carolina

Health officials in North Carolina revealed that in 2013 smoking rates among public high school and middle school students was significantly reduced. However, they are worried that more students do experiment with other tobacco products such as e-cigarettes, hookah, pipe, chewing tobacco. Chesterfield County Makes its Parks Tobacco-Free

Parks and Recreation Department in Chesterfield County, state of Virginia, wants to create smoke-free environments in order to keep kids away from tobacco smoke in some of county-owned facilities.
