Speech With Milo

Speech with Milo was created in order to have versatile speech therapy tools for children. I am Poorani Doonan, a speech-language pathologist who works with young children at a private practice. As a home-based therapy provider, the iPad and iPhone provided the perfect tool for learning games that are portable and interesting for kids. I created Milo to provide an app that was intuitive and affordable for parents and therapists.

Bugs and Buttons - Little Bit Studio

We are not kidding around. This app is packed with 18 amazingly fun games addressing a wide range of skills such as counting, sorting, tracking, path finding, fine motor skills and many more!

Geoboard, by The Math Learning Center

This app is the 21st century’s answer to having a crate full of plastic (or wooden) traditional geoboards in your classroom!  Just think – the possibility of students flicking rubber bands at each other – instead of placing them on the geoboard – is now a thing of the past.  But in all seriousness, this virtual manipulative is a great alternative.

ChatterPix Kids - by Duck Duck Moose

Chatterpix can make anything talk — your pets, your friends, your doodles, and more! Take your own picture or use one you have already taken.
You can draw a line to make a mouth, and record your voice. Then share your Pix with friends and family as silly greetings, playful messages, or creative cards.   You can share by email, facebook or YouTube.  ChatterPix would work with children who are developing language and those who need to practice saying phrases.

My Talking Tom - Android Apps on Google Play

This is the app that started it all! Meet Talking Tom in his early years, before the world glory took him over by storm. He’s cute, he’s funny, he’s amazing! You can even grab his tail - but whether he likes it or not, that's another story!

Interactive Alphabet

Kids will have fun playing with the interactive features for each letter, such as zipping a zipper for z or popping lighted bubbles as they trace letters.
The four options of exploring letters adapt as kids learn -- from learning the ABCs to learning phonetic sounds to writing letters and then reading words. Kids develop a deep understanding of letters and sounds and word-building.

Sight Words List - Learn to Read Flash Cards & Games

Kids will learn to recognize and spell up to 300 of the most commonly used sight words needed to develop fluent readers.

News-O-Matic, Daily Reading for Kids

This app shares the goal of informing children about current news and world events — and inspiring them to read on a daily basis. We devoted a great deal of time and energy to ensure that our final products seamlessly combine literacy, fun, reading opportunities, and gamification to produce an engaging and interactive learning experience.

ScreenChomp

This recordable whiteboard is just the canvas you need to jot your ideas down and share them – with the world, or just a friend or two. Helpful to anyone, but developed with teachers and students in mind, ScreenChomp records your touchscreen interactions and audio so you can…

ThingLink - Make Your Images Interactive

ThingLink lets users add interactive links to any photo and turn them into fun web experiences that drive engagement.

SparkleFish

Sparkle Fish is a funny and imaginative story telling app much like Mad Libs, another fantastic app that we’ve reviewed.  In these apps children are required to be imaginative and think of nouns, adjectives, verbs and other types of words that all come together to create a funny and silly story. How Sparkle Fish is different is that kid’s voices are recorded and their personalized stories are played back as recordings.
