This is a list of blog posts about the 2014 World Domination Summit.
It's been a week since World Domination Summit 2014 and I'm still reviewing my notes and memories for the sparks that touched me the most. It's difficult to explain the weekend in Portland because, well, "World Domination" just doesn't characterize the experience.
A few years ago, I wanted to jump out of an airplane and go skydiving to cross it off my impossible list - but I was to scared to do it on my own. So I decided to just say I was going to do it at WDS - the World Domination Summit in Portland ...
So the World Domination Summit (WDS) rolled around again. And like many supervillains, I just couldn't bring the same passion to the sequel. Founded in 2011, this conference rallies bloggers, entrepreneurs and non-profit leaders - among other intrepid souls - to trade tips on having adventurous lives while giving back to their communities.
I spent the last four days in Portland attending the World Domination Summit (a congregation of people living remarkable lives in a conventional world). It's my second time - immediately after the first one I attended (2013) I bought tickets for myself and my mother to return this year.
"The only people who can change the world are people who want to. And not everybody does." ― Hugh MacLeod Finding Your People This past week has been interesting... Last Wednesday afternoon, a guy named Carlos walked up and introduced himself during my train ride from the Portland airport.
Back in grade school, whenever there was static between any of the kids, one of the favorite refrains spouted by the mouthier of the two was, "ain't nothing between us but air and opportunity." Of course, this was said as a stalling tactic, as neither of the kids wanted to be the first to throw a punch.
In this episode of The Verbal To Visual Podcast I chat about my experience at the 2014 World Domination Summit and share the two surprise endings to that event, both of which involve the use of sketchnoting skills in unforeseen ways. More information about the World Domination Summit here.
For the last four years, I've been going to Portland, Oregon at the beginning of July for an event called the World Domination Summit (WDS). The weekend event is designed around the values of "community, adventure, and service" and challenges attendees to live a remarkable life, even in light of our conventional world.
It's been a week since I donned my orange T-shirt and joined the ranks of the World Domination Summit Ambassadors. I was a volunteer at this annual conference, whose aim since 2011 has been to help remarkable people lead unconventional lives.
The 4th annual World Domination Summit (#WDS2014) concluded last Sunday. I have been attending this summit since the year 1 - but this time I participated as an ambassador (=volunteer to help out running the show).
"If you don't take care of yourself, you're of no use to anyone else" Michael Hyatt On Friday, July 11th my remarkable friend Jill and I arrived in PDX at 1:45 pm. By ten past 2 were we in a cab on our way to downtown Portland.
This past weekend, I attended the World Domination Summit (WDS) in Portland, which attracts 3,000 creative people who are concerned with answering the question: "How do we live a remarkable life in a conventional world?" They are guided by three values: Speaking personally, I'm really into the first two, as well as the third when it's tied to travel and experiencing new cultures.
photo credit : Armosa Studios for WDS. Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the World Domination Summit in Portland, Oregon. I spoke on Sunday in front of a crowd of about 2500. It was one of the coolest things I have ever done professionally.
Friend: "Oh! You'll be in Portland in July? You should go to WDS!" Me: "Ok... what's WDS?" Friend: "Well I'm not exactly sure, but everyone raves about it." A quick Google search told me the acronym stood for World Domination Summit. "Well that's quite a name," I thought.
Oh, Portland! You're such a mixed up place. Fancy dinners and aggressive panhandlers. Gloomy 'n sparkly. The hip and the tragic all rolled up in one. It was time to visit that crazy-fun city again. Reason: the World Domination Summit, Chris Guillebeau's big event for non-conformists who want to live remarkable lives.
I spent last weekend in Portland, OR attending the World Domination Summit. It is, without a doubt, my favorite conference to attend and quite possibly, one of the greatest weekend conferences available today. I attend each year for the community-the people motivate me, help me, and change me.
Unconventional. Record setting. The World Domination Summit isn't just another ordinary event. It's definitely not a convention or some sort of networking event. WDS is a gathering of many unique and dynamic minds, all in the same place at the same time.
I've just returned from a whirlwind week in Portland for the World Domination Summit 2014. This was my second year attending the conference, and I was really grateful to get a chance to meet a lot of people in person who I've only known in an online capacity.
A week before the World Domination Summit, an annual event that brings together a mix of world travelers, entrepreneurs and renegades to Portland for a weekend of inspiration and connection, I learned that yet another member of my crew wouldn't be returning for the event. This was the fifth or sixth such disappointment.
Posted: Print Article I spent last weekend at Chris Guillebeau's World Domination Summit Event in Portland, OR and it was, as always, absolutely amazing. What I love about attending events with multiple speakers is that we all receive the individual messages we need to hear through ideas interwoven into each talk.
I'm going to be very candid with you. I went into World Domination Summit with zero expectations. I hadn't read Chris Guillebeau's Brief Guide to World Domination. I didn't know 95% of the people who were going to this and I didn't look at the name of speakers.
Many of you know that I have become a bit obsessed with yoga, and on occasion, will be known to take three classes in a day. My reverence for the practice has much to do with the great studio where I go, Imagine Yoga Studio, and their wonderful teachers!
This past weekend was the World Domination Summit. Chris Guillebeau and his snappy-happy team brought approximately 2500 people from over 30 countries together in Portland for the fourth year of his wonderful, inspiring quest of an event. Admittedly when I first heard about the summit I, like many people, suspected that it was inspired by Fifty Shades of Grey.
I speak Sunday spoke yesterday at the World Domination Summit in glorious Portland, Oregon. The event started Friday and it's clear this is a most unusual event: there's an energy that I've only seen a handful of times in the hundreds of events and conferences I've been to.
Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life? —Mary Oliver It is called the World Domination Summit—or WDS for short—and billed as a three-day gathering for remarkable people living in a conventional world. I signed up to lure my brother to Portland for a visit—and because […]
