Irritable Bowel Syndrome Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common functional gastrointestinal disorder (FGID) affecting one in seven Australian adults and is also common in the USA, Europe and many Asian countries. This condition is characterised by chronic and relapsing symptoms; lower abdominal pain and discomfort, bloating, wind, distension and altered bowel habit (ranging from diarrhoea to constipation) but with no abnormal pathology.
Dr Sue Shepherd developed the low diet in 1999. She has proven, through her pioneering PhD research, that limiting dietarys is an effective treatment for people with symptoms of IBS. The low FODMAP diet has been published in international medical journals and is now accepted and recommended as one of the most effective dietary therapies for IBS.

Researchers at Monash University have developed a diet and corresponding app to assist in management of the gastrointestinal symptoms associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). The Monash University Low FODMAP diet works by restricting foods high in some carbohydrates called FODMAPs.

Thanks for including my blog on your site! I have found this diet so helpful for so many of my clients that I am thrilled to learn as much as I can and spread the good word! Not sure about tempeh...some seem to tolerate -it certainly could be tried as part of a GOS challenge.
