Chihuly Garden and Glass is a new art experience showcasing the most significant works of internationally acclaimed artist and pioneer Dale Chihuly.
Dale Chihuly (born September 20, 1941), is an American glass sculptor and entrepreneur. His works are considered unique to the field of blown glass, "moving it into the realm of large-scale sculpture," (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston). The technical difficulties of working with glass forms are considerable, yet Chihuly uses it as the primary medium for installations and environmental artwork.
The museum opened May 21, 2012 at the Seattle Center at the former site of the Fun Forest. The project includes three primary components: the Garden, the Glasshouse, and the Interior Exhibits, with significant secondary spaces including a 90 seat café with additional outdoor dining, a 50 seat multi-use theater and lecture space, retail and lobby spaces, and extensive public site enhancements beyond the Garden.
