Things You Shouldn't Store in Your Gun Safe

Although your gun safe is a perfect place to protect important items such as family heirlooms, weapons, digital data and important documents, there are plenty of things that you shouldn't store there. Here are just a few items that should be stored somewhere else.

1

Children

Children

It may seem like a creative form of punishment for when they start getting on your nerves, but locking your child inside your vault is never a good idea – no matter how obnoxious they're acting.

2

Fruit

Fruit

The smell that would occur after accidentally storing bananas for a month would hopefully be enough to keep you from making this mistake twice.

3

Hazardous Materials

Hazardous Materials

You probably shouldn't have anything radioactive or noxious in the first place, but storing hazardous materials would probably ruin everything else you are trying to store and protect.

4

Loaded Weapons

Loaded Weapons

This should be a no-brainer for most gun experts, but always remember to make sure your weapons are completely unloaded when you put them away in storage.

5

Pets

Pets

Sure, it's probably easier to just shove Fido into the safe rather than building a dog house for him, but it wouldn't take long for him to run out of air and die. And then PETA would attack your house.

6

Random Collectibles

Random Collectibles

We've all heard accounts of hoarders who simply refuse to get rid of the massive piles of junk they own. If you're filling up your vault with stacks of worthless collectibles, it's time to clean up.

7

Drugs

Drugs

They're illegal, they're bad for you and you won't be able to get away with it like Walter White.

8

Passcode Information

Passcode Information

You need to keep the vault's code secure – but keep it in a place where you'll be able to access it if you forget the passcode. Keeping it locked within the vault could ensure you never see the inside of your gun safe again.
