Stewart Island/Rakiura is the third-largest island of New Zealand. It lies 30 kilometres (19 mi) south of South Island. Its permanent population is slightly fewer than 400 people. Rakiura is the more commonly known and used Māori name.

The Rakiura Track on Stewart Island is one of the New Zealand Department of Conservation's nine Great Walks.

A compilation of a couple of winter trips to Stewart Island, bush stalking the very elusive Whitetail deer. All deer are bush hunted. No stands, no hides and no sit and wait. Some good fishing is an added bonus on Stewart Island.

Twelve km of the track were a frieghtful mess because of track maintenance, but I didn't feel much like getting the camera out as I was slipping down yet another endless bank of mud.
