These are apps we brainstormed from Camp Plug & Play. Specifically for younger students to use independently at learning centers.

A tens frame is a simple yet very effective tool for playing with numbers up to five and ten. This app provides a tens frame and ten counters, five blue and five purple.
How could my child use a tens frame? Here are some ideas!
Check that the student can recognise the number of dots on a tens frame card instantly without counting.
Addition:
Make sure the students understands that the dots plus the spaces equal ten. Practise all the combinations that make ten.
Subtraction:
Place all ten dots on the frame and ask the students to imagine taking off some dots. For example, for ten minus six the students imagine six dots removed and see that there are four dots left. Check this by actually removing six dots. This leaves four dots exposed.
A very basic game for children just beginning to learn about numbers. Using numbers up to 32, Count Sort helps children recognize that counting must be done in a “one-to-one” fashion. Options exist to limit the counting target to 10, 15, 20, 25, and 32 chips. The game also develops early numeral recognition and early recognition of number “families.” The iPad version includes two additional activities: option to display the chips in 10 Frames and an option to determine more than/less than. Designed as part of the NumberSense program at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL.
Number Line helps students visualize number sequences and model strategies for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. It can be used to represent sequences of numbers, including whole numbers and multiples of a variety of numbers.
Designed to promote kindergarteners' mastery of number order. This app replicates a simple classroom activity in which children place number tiles, 1-100, in order from least to greatest. Options include using 10, 15, or 20 number tiles and beginning the number line at numbers 1-13. Designed as part of the NumberSense program at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL.
Word Match - The Language Game, is a fun way for young kids to learn their first words in multiple languages or for anyone to build up their vocabulary in another language. The current version, 1.0, offers over 200 words in both English and French. Each word comes with a picture and sound effect. Each word is sounded out with the proper pronunciation in the language of choice. Future versions will include three other major languages: Spanish, Chinese and Arabic.

This app includes a wide variety of addition and subtraction word problems designed for students to listen, read, draw and solve. The format and problems were developed and authored by experienced educator Anne Gardner (Nationally Board Certified in the U.S. in Literacy - biography below). The audio narration was performed by Brad Mielke, a professional voice over artist with 18 years of experience.
