Festivals in Tokyo for July 2014

The seventh month has stepped into the limelight, and I now write of what she has in store for festivity!

1

Tanabata

Tanabata

Altair and Vega (the stars of Orihime and Hikoboshi) get to meet once a year and that's always in the first week of July. Its a major festival in Japan all round, and the Zojoji temple in Tokyo is a great place to go to during then.

Tokyo International Book Fair

Spanning four days, the fair extends from the 2nd-5th of July. Fret not, for its not going to be just Japanese books there. Its an international book fair, so there's loads more than what's expected!

Ueno natsumatsuri

Ueno natsumatsuri

A natsumatsuri is literally 'Summer festival'. This one starts from July 16 and ends a little before a month from then. There's always a real feel of going back into our social roots at all summer festivals if not anything.

Sumida-gawa Hanabi Festival

Sumida-gawa Hanabi Festival

Meaning the 'Sumida River Fireworks Festival.' The Japanese always associate fireworks with summer and there are always one too many summer festivals that are concluded with a show of fireworks. Cartoons, smiley faces and such special fireworks are the highlights!
