By David Johnson "alaskafido" For anyone out there who doesn't know who Athena Reich is, this is a good album for you. For anyone who doesn't like too much avant garde, this is a good album for you. And for those who are familiar and like Athena Reich, this is a good album for you.
I don't usually listen to this genre of music but I actually am liking the CD so far. "Home" is already a favorite! "Mr. Roger's Acid Band" Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros - Home Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros' vibe reminded me specifically of the 1995 album Sunday Morning Cartoons Greatest Hits.
This is my first COS album and it is quite a spectacular venture into electronic pop territory. If I had to describe Chicks on Speed I would have to say that they are poppy, electronic, artzy, poetic, spoken word stream of consciousness, dancey, and even sultry and jazzy - and that is a mouth full.
First of all, don't buy the "all the songs sound the same" reviews. Unless you just think all synthesizer based songs sound the same. It seems to me that they did in fact try to make each song have its own feeling.
Australian group Jet lived up to their name when they sonically swooped onto the music scene with their first full-length CD - "Get Born." The lead-off single - Are You Gonna Be My Girl? - is simply one of the most compelling rock songs in recent memory.
I heard "That's not my name" on a movie I was watching, and looked this band up. I got this debut album and first I liked some of the songs. Before long, I liked all of them (all but one, that is). There's just SOMETHING about this sound that is really, really, really...uh....FUN!
Flagpole Sitta is a definite hit. I mean I don't know how you can't like it. It has catchy lyrics (example: paranoia paranoia everybody's comin to get me) and a great sound to it. The guitar on it goes excellent with the lyrics and Sean's voice singing them makes all the better.
"Vices & Virtues" is a great Panic! at the Disco album. "The Ballad of Mona Lisa" seems to be a fairly straightforward pop tune, and as the album's opener it is deceptive: "Vices & Virtues" quickly gives way to interesting and eccentric dance beats.
Just because the record companies want to make money and market all new rock bands as the next Blink 182 pop-punk band, don't blame the artist..don't be fooled by corporate packaging. This album is not about punk, it's about rock. No not N Sync or "sissy bands" or whatever those reviews were supposed to mean..
This is the perfect introduction to Michael Doughty's quirky, catchy and unique style. He was on the cutting edge as the leader of Soul Coughing for years, and now has gone off on his own to create a more mainstream but no less satisfying album. The songs are unique and have a great replay value.
Yet Another Solid Album Of Story-Driven MusicThe Decemberists - 16 Military Wives By Zubin Madon (California, USA) This review is from: Picaresque (Audio CD) While expanding in many ways upon their previous releases, the Decemberists' third full-length album is guaranteed to please their fanbase.
This review is from: Days Are Gone (Audio CD) One of the critical factors I've observed in a lot of things having to do with a retro 1980's pop production in contemporary music is generational awkwardness.
After a Kia commercial & Google search, I found the wonder that is "How You Like Me Now?" The song was so good in fact, I couldn't resist buying the full album, to which I implore you to do also. Stepping into the music of The Heavy, you know you're stepping into something special.
There's no denying that Train has changed. Starting with "My Private Nation" the band has progressed from a simple college band to a more mainstream rock group, "Save Me San Francisco" was their reintroduction back to the masses. A great return and it shows they learned a few things on the way.
3 Doors Down - Kryptonite. As with millions of other people, "Kryptonite" was one of the first songs that introduced me to 3 Doors Down. I use to live in both Japan and California (via the military) and the music of 3 Doors Down was played a lot by many
"For a New Generation of Fans" Happiness Is A Warm Gun -Joe Anderson and Salma Hayek This soundtrack is a fantastic, modern interpretation for a new generation of fans. My best friend and I weren't Beatles fans before watching Across the Universe, but we were after.
"Rock Is Still Alive!!!"Paramore with Hayley Williams -Misery Business As a 48 year old who spent many years playing in bands myself, I was starting to think that picking up an actual instrument and learning to play was a soon to be lost art.
Amy Winehouse vs. Queen-Crazy Little Thing Called Rehab. A great video and song mashup with Amy Winehouse "Rehab", Queen's "A Crazy Little Thing Called Love" with a little Ray Charles background. A well produced video by: djmagnet Amy Winehouse vs. Queen-Crazy Little Thing Called Rehab "Too Early Passing"Amy Winehouse vs.
Green Day -Boulevard Of Broken Dreams. Green Day raises the bar once again, proving that their prime hasn't past, starting a new revolution in punk. They weren't destine to be in the spotlight of fame their whole career. They were destine to change punk rock as we know it.
