Employment, Education, and Career Connections for Teenagers

Here are some employment support resources available for teenagers.

Easter Seals Employment and Training

“The unemployment rate among adults with disabilities is nearly 12 times the national average. Two out of three people with disabilities want to work, but have not been able to secure jobs because of accessibility and attitudinal barriers” (Easter Seals)

Easter Seals workforce development services are working to change this. They provide individualized support for persons with disabilities to make informed choices to achieve and maintain their employment goals. Following is a list of their services offered:

• Employment Planning services
• Job Placement Competitive Employment services
• School-to-Work Transition Services
• Supported Employment services

Goodwill Industries International, Inc.

• Vocational assessment
• Job Development & placement

WorkSmart

"WorkSmart has teamed up with a number of other organizations to provide a series of services intended to help young people from ages 14-21 gain academic and occupational goals and eventually join the workforce. Both in- and out-of-school youth participants may receive services including tutoring, job readiness and retention training, as well as paid and unpaid work experiences with local businesses" (WorkSmart).

Located in the Dane County Job Center at 1819 Aberg Ave. Madison, WI 53704, WorkSmart offers employment & career connections for teens and young adults including:

• Support toward attaining a high school diploma, including GED/HSED preparation support
• Job search for full or part-time work that is compatible with your interests and skills
• Job retention assistance
• Opportunities to connect with other young adults through job clubs and community service activities
• Post high school career awareness and goal setting
• Opportunities to connect with job and community mentors
