Discover windows into the past by seeing and interacting with the history all around you.

The official Historypin app reveals photos near your current location and allows you to view them layered over the modern scene in front of you. You can also explore Collections of some of the best old photos from around the world, wherever you are.

You can add your own piece of history and pin it to the map, too, by using your phone to digitise an old photo, capture a modern moment of historic importance, or take a modern replica of a photo on the app.

And if you shake it, shake it, shake it, shake it, your phone will bring up some of the best photos from all over the globe.

Historypin was created by the not-for-profit company We Are What We Do, in partnership with Google.

Mapping Revolutionary Boston

This app allows you to explore an interactive map of Boston during the 1760s and 1770s, as tensions mounted between Great Britain and its American colonies. Step back in time by touching the colored pins on the map. Who walked these streets 250 years ago? Where did they live and work? How did they view Boston’s place in the British empire and how did they voice their beliefs? As you explore Mapping Revolutionary Boston, you’ll find answers to these questions and, we hope, discover entirely new questions of your own. Use Mapping Revolutionary Boston to build a customized walking tour of your favorite sites and export it to a modern map of the city. If you prefer to explore as you go, the app can also identify the historic sites nearest to where you happen to be standing and provide directions to take you there. However you choose to use it, Mapping Revolutionary Boston opens an iPhone-sized window on the American Revolution and the important role that the people of Boston played in shaping it.

Stats of the Union

What’s the story of health in America?

Explore the nation's vital signs―from life expectancy to access to medical care―and make your own conclusions about America's health. See a stat you'd like to share? Save it as a snapshot.

Stats of the Union is powered by the Community Health Status Indicators (CHSI) report, which consists of data from federal agencies including the Census Bureau, Department of Health & Human Services, Department of Labor and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Since we've had a few inquiries, here are a few details about how the application works:

• Where applicable, the blue color is the “positive” side of the indicator, and the green is the “negative”. For this reason, the color scale will change between some factors. Otherwise you have a confusing situation where a large green area on one map is a problem area, where on another map, green would otherwise mean something more positive.

Shadows of Shoah

The Shadows of Shoah Exhibition was launched by the Prime Minister of New Zealand, John Key, on 25 January 2013. For further information visit:

Watch a video on the preparation for the launch:

The systematic murder of millions of European Jews must not be reduced to a faceless statistic or historical anomaly.

Shadows of Shoah is an artistic project, communicating the gravity and significance of the Holocaust in a unique way. Using black and white photography and original music, selected episodes from survivors' experiences are presented in a brief, compelling format. To reach a new generation for whom the Holocaust holds little relevance or significance, we have attempted to produce powerful and evocative art while carefully maintaining historical accuracy.
