The overall purpose of the flipped classroom is to give students more time to practice skills and concepts in the gym while I am there to provide support tailored to the students ' specific needs. The flipped classroom takes the traditional model of instruction in Physical Education, which is "lecture, whole group practice, and culminating activity" and flips it around.
The flipped classroom is a buzzword that has been aggressively circulating throughout the education community over the past couple years. Teachers in many subjects, including math, science and foreign languages, are all using technology to switch up the way students learn.

Physical education (PE) teachers are often on the short end of the stick when it comes to technology innovations in school. When the battle of the bulge is fought every day in our schools, the conversations are usually more about removing the symptoms of childhood obesity, like limiting soda pop in vending machines and offering healthier school lunch options, than addressing the true cause of the problem--lack of overall physical activity.
One of the key questions I pose with teachers as I share about the flipped class is: What is the best use of your face to face time with students? Many teachers have answered this question in their flipped classrooms by moving the direct instruction to videos that students watch before class, thus allowing for so many great face to face activities with their students.

By now I am sure you have heard of the term 'flipped classroom'. But in case you haven't, a flipped classroom inverts traditional teaching methods, delivering instruction online outside of class and moving homework into the classroom. When I first heard examples of teachers flipping their classrooms, I was intrigued.
The term "Flipped Classroom" really did throw me off and I wondered how it would ever be a component of my Physical Education classroom. I googled "Flipped Classrooms in PE" and hang on......I'm already doing that. All of the articles I read on Flipped PE classrooms focused on the same thing.
Over the past two years, the Flipped Learning method has created quite a stir. Some argue that this teaching method will completely transform education, while others say it is simply an opportunity for boring lectures to be viewed in new locations.
